  • Taking care of a dog who does NOT like me, not sure what to do

Hi everyone! I am taking care of a coworkers dog for them. As soon as I walked in, he started growling and barking a TON. I am so confused, because when I met him to learn how they wanted me to take care of him, he was super sweet. Idk how I'm going to put him on a leash to take him outside to use the restroom, he's showing me he wants to bite me. Any tips to get him to get used to me? For now, I've gone into another room but he is still losing his absolute SHIT.

update: he just LITERALLY chased me out of the house. Going to call the owners when their plane lands.

  • Strategies for rescue dog mouthing at kids

I have a rescue dog who is about a 22 lb terrier mix. The rescue and vet told me she is about 1.5 years old. She has done very well adjusting overall and learned both potty and crate training quickly. She has some behaviors that seem more like a puppy’s, in particularly mouthing and jumping onto people who are sitting on the couch when she gets excited. The biggest issue I’m having with that is that when she’s in play/zoomies mode she will mouth at my kids’ feet, including if they’re walking by her or just dangling their feet off a chair, and sometimes at their arms. She also will mouth at my arms, hands, and feet, but I’m having a better time correcting that because I can respond immediately and shut down the interaction. With my kids she will get a reaction, whether it’s because they’re laughing or upset, particularly my toddler. I’m trying separating her to a more boring location of the house when this starts. So, 1) I’m wondering if that’s the right strategy or if there are other things I should do. 2) I’m wondering how much of this is residual puppy behavior and whether that makes any difference in training (my previous rescues have all been 3+ years old so I don’t know much about puppies). 3) I’m also wondering what training I should be practicing for her to learn to give people personal space and that she can’t just jump all over them when they sit down. I’m worried I might be giving mixed signals bc I have no problem with her on the furniture with us when she’s calm, which is a good amount of the time (she’ll just curl up next to me and sleep). So for example, should I be teaching her to ask permission before jumping on the couch to lie down with me?

    Thanks!

  • Dog training prices, is petsmart really so bad?

I’m finding a lot of dog trainers are 2k-4k in my area with packages to pick from.

I found one with $200 private sessions and then there is petsmart private sessions for around $90

I can’t afford thousands for a prestigious trainer, anyone have luck with petsmart ?

Trying to work on a specific behavior issue with my 11mo dog which would be the main focus.

  • Trying to find a Yorkie

    Hello all,

I’m trying to find a Yorkie breeder near me for my wife’s Valentine’s Day present. I’m starting early in case I need to get on a waitlist. So far my options have been scams or $3,000 AKC Champion bloodlines. I’m not interested in either of those things. Just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions or knew a reputable breeder near Nashville TN. I’d be willing to drive to Alabama, Georgia, etc. Just looking for a good family pet in the $500-$1000 range.

    Thanks!

Hi! My dogs paw pad split open and has been bleeding for some time. I washed it out with salt water put some mupirocin on it and bandaged it up, but am wondering if I need to take her to the emergency vet? Pics in comments.

    https://share.google/4hai0qCFWf92HgMzM

    Hey everyone!

I recently started a small dog walking and sitting business called 5 Towns Dog Walking and Sitting. I’m really passionate about dogs and love spending time outdoors, so this felt like the perfect fit for me.

I’d love to get some feedback or advice from the community — especially from anyone who’s run a dog walking or pet care business before. • What do you think makes a great dog walking service stand out? • Any tips for building trust with new clients or growing locally? • What would you look for if you were hiring a dog walker or sitter?

Thanks so much for your time and any insight you can share. I appreciate it! 🐶💛
