  • If a pup isn’t a biter during teething, could it still develop the habit into adulthood?

My pup is teething right now. He's super gentle and doesn't bite humans at all. Just sniffs and licks. But he does enjoy biting on his toys a ton.

I assume that's a good sign. Chances are he won't develop a biting habit, right?

A friend of mine has the same breed and he's uncontrollable. He'll bite ANYONE's ankles except for his human parents. I want to make sure my pup NEVER gets like this.

  • anti-scavenging muzzle reccomendations for a pup with a fat head

my puppy's almost 11 months old and I figured it's finally time to get him a muzzle since he's probably not gonna grow enough to outgrow one. he has a bad habit of eating stuff off the ground or just picking it up in general (and when he's off leash in our yard, his favorite thing to do is to pick up something he knows he's not supposed to have because he wants us to chase him 🙄)

I tried a Baskerville anti-scavenging muzzle and the fit itself was great, but the strap was far too short and didn't go around his head entirely. I think going a size up would end up too big thoogh.

does anyone happen to have any reccomendations? he's a glen of imaal terrier and they have really big fat heads but all the muzzles can find are either for dogs with thinner heads and longer snouts, or ones for dogs with big heads and short/broad snouts. my dog is neither and has a relatively normal length snout and a fat head. any help is much appreciated !!

  • What’s your teenage pup’s daily schedule?

    Hey everyone!

Just trying to get our daily grind a little more organized for my 8 month pup (and honestly, for my sanity too). Would love to hear what a usual day looks like for your dog (their schedule for nap times, meals, walks, training, the crazy chaos hours… all of it).

What’s actually been working for you versus what sounded good in theory but totally didn’t?

  • New puppy has bad separation anxiety and barks at other dogs

He is freshly 4 months old, he is an aussie/heeler mix with a little English Shepherd and Pitbull terrier. Sweet as pie, great with kids and people. Extremely intelligent and pretty much entirely potty trained. He is a rescue and I got him about three weeks ago and got him acquainted with his crate, he goes in it willingly but does not like me being out of his sight at all, he will scream. Even when he's out of the crate he will scream if I leave his sight for even a few seconds. He does not like to play independently even when I encourage him to. I am worried that he isnt getting enough sleep. Lately he has also started barking at dogs that he sees while on walks and at people who walk up our driveway. I turn him away and walk in the other direction but I don't know if thats the right thing to do.

  • Does anything exist that helps you figure out if you’re actually ready for a dog?

Me and my partner keep going back and forth on getting one. We both want a dog but I'm not sure we've really thought it through properly. Like do we actually have the time for the walks every day? Can we afford it? What happens when we go on holiday?

I've been Googling around and can only find generic breed quizzes which don't really tell you much. What I actually want is something that shows me what day to day life would look like before we commit. Has anyone found anything useful or is it just something you figure out when you get the dog?

Would genuinely love to know how other people approached this before taking the leap.

  • Daytime Crate Training (separation anxiety?)

We rescued a 4 month of Maltese (waiting on DNA) 2 weeks ago. He’s done AMAZING adjusting and learning commands. He is quiet in his crate at night and usually only wakes up once to pee.

He’s also great in his crate during the day (door open or closed) if he can see me. His crate is in my bedroom/home office and I WFH – so he really doesn’t go long without me.

The problem: as soon as the door is closed and I walk away for more than 1-2 min (or god forbid leave the house) he goes into full blown panic mode. Clawing the door, crying, barking.

He has distractions, favorite toy, Kong’s in there. I’ve tried covering & not covering during the day.

I’ve left the house twice for about an hour each and my teen (who stayed in their room) confirmed he cried for the entire hour.

I’ve practiced waking away in short intervals during training – he can make it to 10 seconds without losing his mind.

For his safety, when I leave the house, he needs to be crated. But we also travel a lot and he’ll need to eventually be okay in a hotel.

    Help!

  • Female pup… behavior

My 8 month old F mini Dachshund just had her first heat cycle and she is h*mping everything. Her dog beds, people’s arms, toys. All. The. Time.

She does not seem anxious or stressed. I don’t engage and try to redirect but it is constant and persistent. Her spay is in 2 months. What do I do?

  • Purina Pro Fortiflora Ingredients

My pup has had loose stool (combination of stress and switching kibble), combine that with him getting picky over his food and its been an uphill battle the last couple weeks. (Been to two different vets and they say he's fine). What I've noticed is that while he normally eats his food fairly quickly, if I sprinkle the Fortiflora on it he devours it like he's been starved for the last month. He even finishes by licking the bowl clean and then searching for more food! I know the label says it only contains the probiotic, liver, and yeast, but that can't be all there is to it right? I've fed him liver twice and while he enjoyed it, it wasn't anywhere like this. I'm mainly wondering so I can find more similar food or toppers he'll enjoy like this, maybe stow it away as my trump card when he's being particularly hard headed.

  • Neutral ground that’s…safe? clean?

    Hi everyone,

I’m bringing home my new puppy in a few days and would love some advice!

I currently have a 5yo dog who lost her sister a few months ago. When I picked her up as a puppy I brought my older dog for the car ride and it worked well, but I’ve read that’s not actually a good way to do the introduction and I want to make sure I’m introducing my current dog to my puppy the right way. Everything I have read says to introduce them on neutral ground, but because my puppy isn’t fully vaccinated yet, I’m nervous about going to a public park or the like. I have green space around my house, but that wouldn’t be neutral for my current dog. I also have parks in the area, but worry about bringing a puppy there that’s not yet fully vaccinated.

My current dog can be a little high strung and I want to make sure I’m setting her and her new sister up for success!

Any advice would be welcome!! 🤗

  • Help me spoil my dog rotten

I'm looking after my family dog, Baxter, for a week and want to give him the best week of his life! He's the best boy ever, the calmest most obedient and loving velcro dog! He's 10 now and I don't get to see him often since I live in a different city. What can I buy or make or do with him to give him the best time?
