  • I’m at a loss at what to do..

My 11-month-old Rottie/GSD is HORRIBLE outside. Her ears turn off the second we leave the house, and getting her attention is next to impossible.

Her walking is the biggest problem. I have tried all types of harnesses and collars, and have been training her to walk nicely since she was four months old, but she is still extremely reactive. She will almost rip your shoulder out of the socket to chase after a leaf, or try to greet a person/another dog, even if that dog is on the other side of the road. While on a harness, she will even pull hard enough to stand on her back legs, trying to say hi to children.

I’m incredibly embarrassed she still hasn’t learned to walk nicely. I’m starting to dread walk time. Training methods I have tried include stopping, walking in the other direction, and walking her in a circle every time she pulls. I have also tried being a treat vending machine, using high-reward treats, and trying to get her to focus on me while passing others. No matter what I do, she will immediately begin to pull again.

It’s getting to the point I’m worried I may have to rehome her, as she is already able to drag me around and she’s not even a year old.

  • Help!

I wasn’t sure which flare to use. Both my dogs are on Bravecto for flea/tick prevention. They have been on it for years and I give them the dose every 12wks as opposed to 3 months because we hike. I live in apartment and I’ve lived here for 4 years. No issue with fleas ever. UNTIL NOW.

The Bravecto works but I am still finding, at most, 1-2 fleas on one of my dogs every other day or so. They are never 100% alive; usually dead or dying because of the Bravecto. My cat is also on the topical 12wk Bravecto. The dogs even wore Seresto collars for a bit alongside their Bravecto but they didn’t seem to work at all. I do believe I know where the fleas are coming from. There is someone who lives in my building who has too many cats and, from the smell, they do not take care of them.

I am vacuuming every other day. I wash all bedding and blankets every two weeks. My concern is: I’m moving out of this apartment in a few weeks and I am so worried about taking fleas with me and just endlessly living my life never being infested (I do not see them other than when I comb the animals) but always finding a few fleas a week.

How can I get rid of them for good?! Pet safe solutions only. I have nowhere for them to go to use anything toxic to get rid of the fleas.

  • Adolescent pup never tires

Just got back from a 2 hour grueling hike with my 14-month old mutt (who is 8 working breeds according to the dna test- mountain cur/husky/golden/great pyr/etc), which was twice as long as his normal daily hilly walk and he already had his normal running around exercise earlier in the day. Chico is running around like we haven’t even started, happy as a clam and bouncing around.

    I will never know peace.

(This is all in good humor)

  • Dog can not get on the car

My 5 years old Jindo is very skittish, and does not like a car ride. I have been training for past 5 years on and off, finally he is willing to get on to find treats or toys but very stressed/featful if the door is closed or car moves. We need to move to different state – 3 day drive, and he needs to tolerate car ride

Is there any magic solution ? Other than keep trying ? He is skittish and does not like strangers or other dogs, and very picky eater – so we have limited option for the treat

I am thinking about medicating him .. any suggestions ?

  • Multiple dogs – how often do they "fight"?

Say you leave the house and your 2+ dogs are left unattended. Do they just mind their business and chill? How often do they brawl/gentle gnaw/bark at each other? I guess you wouldn't really know the answer unless you are secretly monitoring and watching them somehow

  • Emergency Travel + 9 week old puppy help ):

Hi everyone, I got a 9 week old puppy literally yesterday. There is a health emergency going on in my family and they called me telling me to get on the next flight.

I don’t want to leave the puppy during this adjustment. I also need to get home as it might be the last chance for me to say bye to a family member. I need to find someone to safely watch the puppy when I’m gone, but I’m also trying to have a backup plan to the backup plan if things fall through.

I am currently trying to find someone to pet sit, I’m in contact with the breeder to see what I could do because I don’t think I could board him this young. If I had to take him with, would it be the worst thing in the world if I kept him off the ground? It’s a shorter 2 hour flight.

Alternatively I could drive but that’s 11 hours and I’d be doing it solo and I’m worried of all the germs at rest stops, at least airport I could keep him off the ground and ultimately get to my family quicker cause time is of the essence.

  • Puppy won’t listen to me

My puppy is about 4 months old. When i train her she knows commands, she listens sometimes, mostly when she’s hungry. But outside of that she just doesn’t care or if she’s hungry but there’s distractions she also doesn’t care. Does consistency solidify this or does stubbornness never end?
