  • Bathroom Habits

To sum it up, potty training our dog has been… difficult. He is 13 months now and we got him at 6 months. He pees outside no problem now. But he still doesn’t give us a warning when he needs to go like our other dog. So if it’s been longer than 3 hours there’s a high chance he’ll just go inside. Again, no warning. No issue here, just means we need to take him out more often, which we do.

It’s his pooping that’s a problem. Most times we take him out he will NOT poop outside. But instead, will do it immediately after coming back in. He doesn’t ever poop in his crate, so what we’ve done to combat this issue is put him up for 20-30 minutes then try taking him out again. Usually he’ll poop after this.

But we’re still having accidents inside. For example, some nights he’s really good at holding both potties in all night, other nights not so much. Just now, and what’s causing me to write this post, he had a poo accident. My fiancé took him out an hour and a half ago before he went to work. Meaning, he’s probably been in the crate for an hour max while I was finishing up my shift. I come home from my shift and let both my dogs out their crates. All is well for 10 minutes but then guess what, he poos. I feel at his age he should be able to hold it more than an hour-hour and a half, correct?

He just had a vet check up and they said everything looked perfect. So, doesn’t seem to be a physical problem. Unless this would be something they need to investigate deeper on rather than just looking at a stool sample. I’m unsure how that works, truthfully. Only thing I can think of is it’s for attention, maybe? He did this while I was petting our other dog and he tends to have jealousy issues. So, could he be pooping inside for attention? Or is it simply just his age? I’m getting at my wits end with this. I love my little guy to bits and pieces. But, I don’t want to come home from an 8 hour shift and have to clean up dog poo immediately.

I know you guys can’t diagnose my dog over a Reddit thread. But any advice is welcomed and appreciated. Thank you.

  • When did you stop needing to “helicopter parent” your puppy?

I wasn’t sure how else to phrase it but basically when did you stop needing to CONSTANTLY watch your puppy when they are outside their crate/play pen if you have one. I live in an apartment so even if my 13 week old puppy is “free roam”, i can pretty much see him at all times; although at this stage, he has a leash on (even if he’s just dragging it around) almost always for easy redirection. Despite being able to see him, I can’t actually walk away from leash distance for more than a few seconds. He still needs constant redirection from chewing furniture, ripping up carpet, trying to jump up onto places he shouldn’t, jumping to grab something he shouldn’t (even when i though it was out of reach!), chewing the wall, etc. What’s crazy is he is actually happy to occupy himself with a toy or chew for 5-15 minutes IF you are nearby. Like I can sit on the couch while he chews or plays with a toy. But if I get up to go to the kitchen or bathroom, he will quickly lose interest in the toy and start getting into the less desirable behaviors.

When could you cook a meal in the kitchen and have your puppy hangout nearby, not in a crate/pen, without having to go and constantly redirect? Or clean the bathroom without worrying they were trying to shred furniture?

  • Crate In Bedroom for Naps and also Nighttime?

This is what works for us and I want to know if this is actually the right way to do it. We've had our pup for a month (3.5 months old) and crate training has thankfully been pretty smooth. We've been enforcing naps because he's just toooooo hyper to fall asleep in the living room right now. The crate is in our bedroom where he sleeps at night. Is it a problem that he's napping in there too? we put a blanket over it and a noise machine and he's totally fine in there. Will this bite us in the ass since it's too quiet? like will he actually learn to sleep around us when he's older? Thanks!

  • Make that nose work for the sake of sanity.

Busy body puppies are so funny and also so scary. Make their nose work. We are in the process of doing towel rolls + kibble. He has to seek it via his nose. This has kept him busy for 20 minutes so far. Thank goodness 😂

  • Do you experience health anxiety?

Hi, I’m just looking for some reassurance, that I’m not crazy.

We had our puppy for over a month now and first week I had a crazy health anxiety, I was always worried about him, watching if he’s not breathing too fast or if he doesn’t have fever or else.

After like the week I wasn’t that worried. But my fear always comes back whenever he gets his vaccination or dewormer. Or when he’s acting a little bit different than usual.

Yesterday he got his third round of vaccination and today I’m going crazy, if he is fine. I’m watching his breathing, his temperature and everything. My partner is saying, that I’m paranoid and that he seems completely fine to him. But I’m just worried that I will miss something and something happens to him.

Does anyone of you deal with something similar? Or am I just paranoid

  • dog died, started snowing in the middle of summer while burying him.

    Hello everyone!

My dog, Boo, was everything to me when I was a kid. He saved me from a snake, it almost bit me from behind and he killed it! He also knocked down a bees nest next to where I was playing at outside in the backyard. We did everything together!

When I was about 9-10 years old, I was leaving for school one day and I saw Boo laying on the ground. He was still alive but he didn’t seem like he was doing too well. My dad saw him as well and told me he would come get me if something happens while i’m at school. Well he picked me up from school after school was over and Boo was still laying in the same spot. I ran over to him and he passed away in my arms. My dad said he was waiting on me to get home. We buried him the next day, I believe, I don’t remember if it was that night for the next day, it was so long ago, but it was in the middle of summer, around April-May time. It was hot with no clouds whatsoever in the sky. My parents have a lot of land, so we buried him in the pasture in the backyard. As soon as we started burying him, it started snowing. My dad said it was a sign from Boo because we loved to play in the snow. As soon as we stopped, it stopped snowing. Have you guys had anything happen like that, or can you explain this somehow? Thanks in advance!

  • Are there certain dog toy categories?

I assume they’re all variety of chew toys, given dogs use their mouths, not really their paws like cats do. I’ve seen fake bone chew toys, Kong feeders, she has puzzle feeders. Any other toy category I can get my dog? I’ve tried squeaky stuffed animals, but she’ll rip the stuffing and squeakers out of them.

  • Tips for owning a lab in a hot area?

I live in Southeast Texas. It’s extremely hot and humid. I’m a first time dog owner. Any tips for having a lab in hot and humid weather? I see other people do it, so I’m assuming it shouldn’t be too difficult. I know labs have short double coats, but with how young the breed is and that it was bred in Canada, I assume they’re used to cold weather.

  • Help to understand the feeding table

Hello, we're using Zoo Good puppy food, but we're struggling to understand the feeding table

We have a 9 week old Pomchi puppy and we wanna know if we are feeding her correctly

The feeding table is only from 5kg (11lbs) and up

Does the table mean what weight it's estimated she is as an adult?
