We've only ever had rescue Jack Russells but for a few reasons we are looking at getting a rough coat Jack Russell Terrier from a puppy. We just have no idea how to go about it all, who to trust, what to ask, etc.
We've reached out to the JR association but have had no response which is disappointing.
If there's anyone willing to have a chat on here or in DMs about how you found the process here in the UK, that would be really appreciated.
Any general tips welcome too. TIA x

I got a dog furniture crate for my yorkie, so it has the cage and then the rest is drawers and shelves which I thought would be best for keeping all her stuff.
However, she slides right through the gaps š
Any advice on how I can close off the gaps so she canāt get through?
Iām thinking I should put plastic wrap at the bottom and zip tie it and then put a blanket in the cage to block off that stuff at the bottom. I donāt want it be a safety risk for her but iāve had her for 10 years sheās not a dog who chews through stuff so Iām not too worried about it as long as i cover it from the inside where sheās at.
Not 100% yet though, any ideas?
(not sure which tag to put this under so I chose equipment because I think thatās falls under it? if not I apologize)

About a month ago I had to go out of town at the last minute for one day and there was nowhere to board my dog. So, I hired a dog walker on the Rover app to come walk her 4 times the day that I had to go out of town.
My apartment complex has a poop DNA test system and it is a 350 dollar fine if they find your dogs poop, go get it tested and it comes back positive as being your dogs. Well sure enough, I come home today to a notice that says I am being fined 350 for my dogs poop, which I know canāt be possible since I clean it up every time.
After investigating it, the sample was collected on the same day that the dog walker was here, in the same location as the pictures that the dog walker sent me.
350 dollars is a freaking ton of money for something that I wasnāt responsible for, I should have made it an emphasis to tell the dog walker this but I figured a professional dog walker has the common sense and morality to clean up freaking dog poop. The worst part is that it was right next to the station with free poop bags.

I've been a customer of The Foggy Dog for 5+ yrs. I prefer their leashes as the rope style is most comfortable on my hand/ wrist, they are easy to clean in the wash when dirty, & the clip and hardware (brass) is easy to use and seem nearly indestructible. Originally I purchased the "Petite" (thinner rope) 4' long leashes, back when they also offered a 6' length. A few years ago they reduced their offering to one length of 5', no more 4' of 6' lengths. I've bought a few 5" leashes but they are just too long for me & my dog. She's short (a mini dachshund) and I'm average height 5'5" and often the 5' length leashes are dragging on the ground when she is walking close to me, which is most of the time as we live in NYC. So, I've had to create a big cumbersome knot in those leashes to shorten them, which is not ideal, & I haven't purchased any new ones as the longer 5' length is inconvenient. Thus I would LOVE to know, has anyone been successful in opening up the brass hardware at the handle, shortening the rope and closing it back up, with out it breaking, and remaining secure? Or do you know of a resource who works this type of "marine grade" hardware & may be able to do it? I've included images of my "original" leashes, tan & grey, and the newer 5' long pink as references. Appreciate any suggestions! Original Tan 4' & Grey 4.5' leash vs. Pink 5' leash Pink Leash with knot shortening to close to 4' Close up of knot size to shorten to closer to 4' & handle brass hardware closure submitted by /u/mizzoutgr |
We got a Great Pyrenees mix from the shelter today. I made the mistake of letting her off leash in our big fenced back yard. But now she just runs from us and hides behind trees and bushes when we go out to check on her. She's due to take medicine with dinner tonight, but I'm betting she won't come in at all. She's really scared. I think it would just be traumatic for her if we tried to chase her down and forced medicine down her throat, so we're thinking we'll just leave her be, and leave the back door open with food just inside- hoping that if she gets hungry enough she'll come inside. Do you think that's the right approach, or should we bring her food outside and leave it under a tree for her? It's raining, but not too cold outside.

I have a 2 year old Australian shepherd (male), and a newly (less than a week) adopted 7 month old Australian shepherd/ Alaskan malamute mix (female) and there both fixed. The first day I brought her home they got along great, they even slept together. By day 2 and so on (this is day 4) theyāve been āplayingā atleast sometimes it looks like playing and other times it looks like fighting. Theyāll sniff each other a lot, follow each other around and lay around/ take naps together, and then when itās time the puppy wants to play sheāll try to initiate it by bitting or nipping at my other dog and he responds by bitting back at her. It doesnāt seem like there biting down hard because neither one of them has yet to yelp or whine in pain but it looks intense at times. It seems like most of the time they bite each others fur but sometimes they get the skin. Iāve checked both of them for marks or cuts but itās almost impossible to see anything with how much fur both of them have. My Aussie on occasion will show his teeth at her and seem very aggressive which heās never done before but then theyāll also chase each other around back and forth like that for 5-10 minutes before one loses interest and they act like it never happened. Iām worried as sheās obviously a puppy and isnāt as socialized but he is , the puppy is going to training classes soon but they havenāt started yet and if this is true aggression/ fighting what are some things I can do to prevent it/ stop it.

Our 1.5 red lab is so excitable and overstimulated, especially when it comes to other dogs. He LOVES other dogs, and loves to play, and if he can see other dogs, especially if they are playing or running, he is completely fixated on them and whining or pulling towards them. I want sooo badly to get to a point where we can walk or hike off leash in areas where it is permitted, but he will sprint up to any and every dog in eye sight and is still not great at taking a hint if dogs donāt like his energy.
We do longline training sessions 3-4 times a week where we try to go in an area where he can see dogs at a distance and work on recall and commands, he does okay if you are far enough away but you can tell he is still hyper aware of the presence of other dogs and if we were to get closer or let him off lead he would pull or run immediately. He tends to ping pong where he will reach the end of the long line towards the dog and then recall back for a treat but them run right back towards the dog.
Looking for any advice on training routes, because it seems like we are at a plateau with everything weāve been doing- high value treats, making ourselves the most āfunā thing and praising lots. Is this just an age thing? Will he grow out of it or be less excitable when he is neutered?
We havenāt yet worked with a professional trainer (just going off of youtube and blogs online so far) but we will be soon- he gets neutered next week so after he is healed we will be registering for training, but needing some help in the meantime. Also advice on if group classes would be good for him to learn obedience around other dogs or if that would just be to overstimulating to start with? (He can walk by another dog on the sidewalk without fulling pulling towards them, but it still fixated on them)
I feel like such a failure for not being able to train a lab when everyone says they are such a trainable dogs š

My dogs one 3 years old and the other 2 are not potty trained and i cant train them to do it outside since whenever it rains, or when its night, and morning dew poison frogs comes out. I've been trying to teach them to do it on training mats but they do it on other mats too so i just dont know what to do.
