  • Desperate for help with alert barking and a new baby

Really struggling with my mini poodle and alert barking. She only does it when I’m home, never when home alone.

My living room windows are in front of the driveway so she spends her day sitting there looking out.

The problem is once she starts she won’t stop

E.g. neighbour across the road comes home, and she’s still barking/patrolling etc when they have already parked their car, gone inside, lights are off etc.

    I have tried

    -acknowledging someone is there

-training “quiet” I just get barks then looking at me for treats. So bark/quiet/bark/quiet

-calling her away, I can get her to come over and sit next to me on the couch, but she is still alert, barking etc.

-having the blinds down, she still barks or moves the curtains or barks at noises

Help? What am I doing wrong? I have no problem with a bit of barking, she’s a dog. But just stop when the person is out of view

I have a small baby so often nap trapped etc on the couch

  • Should I visit my rescue dog in the shelter or wait until he’s ready to come home?

I adopted a dog from my city pound today, but their policy is that the animal cannot go home with the adopter until it's spayed/neutered and given initial shots. There's a pretty big surgery backlog right now, so we're waiting.

He's so miserable in the kennel. He just curls into a tight little ball and shakes. I hated having to leave him behind. I even brought in the records from my vet with her personal number attached (with her permission) trying to convince them I was an established, responsible pet owner and would bring him back for the surgery. I completely understand why that rule is in place, but I feel so sad for him.

Would it make it better or worse for me to start visiting and maybe bringing him treats/toys and taking him out to the visiting area every day until he is able to come home? I don't want him to feel like he's being abandoned every time, but I also hate to think of him sitting alone in terror in the kennel all day.

  • Donation of Dog Items (MA)

Hi Reddit – This is my first post. Just wanted some help with finding good places to donate some dog items. I have some gently used toys, beds, and bowls that are in pretty good condition. I was hoping to find a local animal shelter that could use the donations more than larger scale places. I live in the North Shore, MA area but I’m open to driving to other places if it means they go to good places. I tried googling but I’m only getting some big name places like MSPCA, etc. Let me know your insights and thoughts!!

  • Dog acting very strange

I was walking my dog today, and he was basically barking the entire time. He usually barks when there are other dogs around, but there wasn't a single dog present while I was walking him. This was extremely unusual, because he was barking the ENTIRE time, no matter what I did.

I tried to take a different path home, thinking it would disrupt his activity, and it did for a couple seconds, but all of a sudden he turns around and starts barking vigorously behind me. The very strange thing about this is as he was barking, he was backing away. This is very very abnormal as he tends to lunge toward whatever he is barking at, regardless of its size. Now, we're back and he won't stop staring at me.

I have been a little on edge recently, don't know if that is relevant. Is it possible he was barking at a spirit or something? Any recommendations of what I should do next?

  • Adopting a Husky

I recently saw this husky at a shelter in my area and I was wondering if it would be possible to have him in my apartment. He's a little over a year old and I have had dogs before, never a husky and my complex allows them. I work full-time and am unsure how he would cope during the day. Have thought about getting a walker for the middle of the day. Any thoughts?

  • Question About Flea Meds and Baths

If the day that I'm supposed to give my dogs their flea meds is right before their scheduled for a bath, should I give the flea meds anyway, or wait until some time after the bath so the medicine doesn't get washed away?
