  • accidentally overwhelmed puppy during socialization, worried i really fucked up

they're setting up for a christmas parade downtown and i live within walking distance, i thought there would just be a handful of people arriving and that it'd be a pretty good socialization opportunity. i was completely wrong, there were loud trucks everywhere and we ended up mobbed by people wanting to pet him. every time i tried to find a quiet spot to let him breathe, something else would go wrong: a dog would start barking at him, someone driving by would blare their horn, etc

i should also note that while we've done socialization outings almost daily since he first came home, he was usually in a cart or being carried because he wasn't fully vaccinated. my vet just gave me the okay to start being less careful, so maybe he's used to being up high?

he did okay all things considered, but was not as confident as he usually is. he was very clearly unsure and nervous. we're back home now and he seems fine, but im just worried that i fucked up. i know his "socialization window" is closing (he's almost 15 weeks old) and i don't want him to be scared of everything as an adult. is there any way i can make him more comfortable?

  • 9 week old today lab

My lab is 9 weeks today and tomorrow a week since I picked him up. I love him with all my heart but I don’t think I can do this. Everything hurts and I’m so tired. On top of everything I had to move out of my home as my neighbour threatened me cause I have a puppy. So on top of puppy blues I have life stress and now being at my parents place so worried about him distorting their home. They keep telling me it’s all ok but it’s really hard to let it all go. But top I haven’t cried yet today

  • Puppy is too hyper & I feel like she doesn’t want me around

I live with my mum in a ground floor apartment with a garden. Had my puppy Kaia, a rescue no breed pup for 3 months now. She is 5 months old and I am mentally reaching rock bottom.

We are doing training and closely working with the guy. Kaia listens to him straight away, however when it's just me, her and mum, she most often bites us.

So to give you an idea of my day, she sleeps with me (which I want long term), we wake up anytime between 7:30-9, I take her out for 15 mins or so, for potty, then she stays closed in a heated balcony where she has her water, food and bed.

I start work at 11 but just before I spend some time training and try and go for potty again, , maybe 10 – 20 mins, then she either sleeps on my bed while I work or if shes hyper which happens 50% of the time I have to put her in balcony.

At 3, I take my lunch and I take her out for potty in the garden, and thats where it starts. I try and spend quality time with her, but she doesnt want to play, I try redirecting her the way the trainer showed me/ how I saw on youtube but she will just go for my hands, hair, etc.

Back in the balcony til 7pm when i finish. Food, potty, then I would like her to spend time in the living room with us but she just either bites, jumps on the table, pulls wallpaper, floor wood etc. Moreover, she jumps on my mums HEAD as shes sitting and watching TV

She goes in the balcony no problem but I feel like its not fair on her and not the type of relationship I want with her.

Moreover when we go on walks, she doesnt even look at me, she doesnt give a f about where i am what i do… But whenever anyone approaches us she gets so happy and I can't help but wonder if she just doesn't want to be around me and I'm just overall a bad pup parent.. She will only listen when I have treats in my hand, otherwise she will either bite or ignore me.

Moreover, after 7 shell just pee everywhere with no warning

I feel so helpess.. Is it just a phase and she'll chill out later? Or are we just not compatible?

I had another dog, an angel, had her for 15 years and she never received training but was the most behaved bby ever.

  • Long post! Any advice??

I'm extremely tired!!!!! We have a 10 month old goldendoodle. He has been such a sweet baby. He had the usual puppy traits of biting and chewing but nothing we couldn't handle. With training he was good on walks and wouldn't pull too much. It's been a couple of weeks and he is absolutely a menace on the walks. Pulling so hard that the harness breaks. He'll suddenly look at the leash and start biting on it pulling it and biting my hands really bad that I feel it in my bones. It's really hard to hold onto the leash when he bites so hard. I try to drop the leash and stand on it so he doesn't run away but it's so difficult because he is strong. Today he was biting on the leash and my hand and pulled it so hard the harness broke. I tried to grab his collar but he slid out of it. It was terrifying because he just took off, it was raining a lot and I had no way of catching him. Another dog and his owner were coming out and he lost it. He ran towards them I think it was to play with him but ofcourse he had so much energy that it maybe have come off as aggressive idk (we will go apologise to them) But they were terrified and angry, understandably so. After a while I managed to get him into our garage. I started bawling after.

Idk what to do but ive tried so much, putting a front clip harness. Treats when we walk. Training at home. We try to get as much mental enrichment as possible and also playtime but nothing seems enough his energy just never wears off. He chewed up out entire couch and I can't even get started on the humping and biting. We tried crate training at first but gave up eventually I think maybe we should have stuck to it. He will be neutered in a month but I'm scared that will onset more behavioral challenges. Idk is this normal what are we missing??

  • New puppy and separation anxiety

I recently got a puppy (two weeks ago) and he’s turning three months in a couple of days. The last couple weeks have been very challenging (especially the last few days). He has obviously been very clingy as all puppies are however it’s been really difficult to deal with the crying when he’s in his crate and I’m not physically next to him in the same room of course. I started off having his crate in my room for a few days then I moved it downstairs to where he will permanently be I even slept on the sofa for a couple days and eventually moved upstairs to sleep in my room and left him downstairs. He was doing quite well for the couple of days apart but all of a sudden he’s become very restless at night screaming, shouting and crying for most of the night again I understand that this is something that’s quite common with crate training and new pups but I just wanted to know if anyone had any advice. He also gets very upset if I’m not in the same room as him (I am a solo pup mum) whether he’s in his playpen or whether he’s just in a different room and I’ve stepped out of the room. I’ve tried to find videos and advice and I know that it is early days and will take some time but any advice would be great and even some encouragement or stories that anyone would like to share!

    thank you!🐾

  • lamb braid vs rawhide

I have an 8 month old schnoodle and i recently ordered some lamb braids. Online they are described as a rawhide alt and i understand they are air dried but they look so much like rawhide that my dog 15 years ago had. What makes them safer?

  • Christmas tree VS 10 week lab puppy

how do we get our lab puppy to stop biting the christmas tree. He is specifically fixated on biting the Christmas lights. (He not ingested anything, all lights are still intact) We are working on ways to redirect him, which he’s doing okay with, but he will NOT leave these lights alone. And he is so quick with it too!!!!! Are there any nontoxic sprays or something to deter him? Any advise is welcome

  • Dog does not get the concept of a snuffle mat

We’ve been try to use a snuffle matt with my Jack Russell (1 YO) for about a month. We’ve tried with both kibble and high reward treats, but every time we try it, he flips the matt throwing the treats all over the floor, and tries to shred the matt or runs in circles with it instead.

Any ideas on how to get him to use it correctly or is it a lost cause at this point?

  • Any recs for a moving toy that is durable/less breakable?

I have a dog who loves moving toys that spin on the floor or flop around, etc, but his bite is so strong the toys only last a few hours before he destroys it. Has anyone found a moving toy that can withstand strong chompers?
