  • Should I replace my Puppie’s Playpen with a Crate?

Been using a play pen for my 12 week old Puppy for a few days. She doesn't mind letting me lift her in there; sleeps like a baby even when the TV is on and I keep it the area enough to where she doesn't pee or poo in it. Just wondering if there are any benefiets of a crate compared to a pen.

  • Should i allow an over excited puppy to gallop crazily when meets other dog?

9 month rescue puppy. Very nervy but doing great, has good wait command. I do let her meet some other dogs in parkh and sometimes she gets over excited and desperately wants to play and she bounces around for a few minutes then settles.

She's part greyhound and I can't let her really run flat out atm

When friends calm dog came round, she went crazy. Zooming back and forth, trying to make other dog play. Wild look in her eyes. Ignoring commands.. I separated them as other dog was sick of her and she was ignoring the other dogs correcrions/warnings.

Question…..should i invite other dogs round and play in garden and go crazy eyed or should i do something else? Thanksj

  • 9 weeks in – after puppy blues

Buster has been with us for 9 weeks now. We got him at 8 weeks old.

The first 4 weeks was crazy hard! Every day I cried and struggled and talked about letting him go. But I am so happy I didn’t! After these 4 weeks things got easier. We startede getting to know each other. We started puppy training – this really made our bond stronger.

Now.. he hadn’t had a putty accident for 5 days! He has a “pee-button” he activates when he needs to go. He sleeps from 9-10 in the evening and until 5-5.30 in the morning. He is really easy to train and great at walking with a leash. He can be home alone 4-5 hours without any crying or accidents.

Over all thing are just great! And I am so happy I didn’t give up.

    But those first 4 weeks!!!

Only thing we are still struggling with is him being a little too much for our old dog. Its getting better too, but still some way to go.

And his best friend is our cat Loke 🙂

Hang in there! It gets easier!

  • I accidentally hurt my pup, can this ruin things?

Hi friends, so usually when I correct my pup (in the case of biting) I will grab him by the scurf simply to stop his range of motion, not hard as to hurt him but enough to hinder his movement. Today we were playing and he started to bite my hands but when I went to grab him he quickly pulled away and caused me to yank on his fur. I am so scared to mess up with him, he is my baby and I would hate to lose the trust we have built. How do I come back from something like this and show him I am not scary? He isn’t showing signs of fear but Im still nervous :/

I would also hate for this to happen again and am completely open to new methods of stopping biting, EXCEPT redirecting which has not seemed to work for us.

  • Should I get a dog 24f?

Should I get a dog? I am a 24f who lives in a house that I own. I love dogs, have always grown up with them and my parents still have 2 that visit occasionally for a night or so. I work from 7:40-4:00 most days but occasionally can go until 6ish. I have a large fenced yard with grass and a covered patio (where the dog would spend its time during the day). I live an active lifestyle working out before work every day which could be incorporated with a dogs new routine. I also have a dog run in my neighborhood that I could utilize after work. The dog in specific I am looking at is a 4month border/heeler mix whose owner is rehoming it due to work travel. My parents have a border heeler mix so I’m very familiar with the breed. The owner says she seems to be low-medium drive, is crate trained, and basically potty trained. The only real thing holding me back is fear that with my schedule it’s too much. Occasionally, (every other week basically), I leave town on Friday nights for the night and return the next day- mid day. My family has said they would be willing to help as long as the dog is trained but I feel that it is not a good idea to get involved in getting a dog, knowing you will rely on others for help. Thoughts? Is it too much for me or am I overthinking needing support? Thank you.

  • Getting a new puppy/dog guilt

A little background – I haven’t had a dog (or any pets) in over 20 years. Husband never had any pets, ever. No kids, ever.

We don’t have a lot of time together because of my husbands work schedule, I work from home. When he does have time off he prefers to be spontaneous and doesn’t like to plan.

I have been researching pups for a while and
we now have to chance to get a 7 month old pup.

Now I’m feeling super anxious and almost guilty as the pup is something Ive been wanting more so than my spouse. In other words, I initiated this pursuit.

Is it nerves at the thought of a new lifestyle?

Or am I feeling guilty trying to fulfill my own happiness while taking away some of our freedom?

  • How can I best enrich my dog that likes pushing balls behind him and chasing them?

I have a dutch shepherd/retriever mix that LOVES this one medium sized ball that makes sounds when it rolls. It is the only toy I have ever seen him this engaged with. He will push it behind him and try to catch it over and over. What are some other similar activities that he can do that will be as enriching?

  • TV for dogs

We have two pug mixes, and they are the first dogs we've ever had that have had any interest in watching TV. They watch very intently, whine and bark, but their body language seems to indicate that they're having a good time. One of them has made a connection to the TV remote being a precursor to watching their "shows", and he asks for it almost daily.

Is there a chance that I'm distressing them by letting them watch videos of dogs and goats and other animals?

  • What are the best hot weather shoes for small dogs?

I want to buy my dog some shoes now to start getting him used to them before summer next year. We get into the 100s for most of summer where I live and I don't want him to be stuck inside. He is an 11lb terrier. Are there certain fabrics or shapes I should be looking for?

  • Whoa!

I taught my dogs to 'whoa'. So if we're out walking and I say "whoa" they stop where they are. Well yesterday, I hopped on my horse while he was out in the field and rode him around a little, no saddle no bridle. My dogs were milling about and my horse started trotting off and with no means to steer I said WHOA! Well my dog stopped directly infront of my horse! I quickly shouted at my dog to "GO!" And he scooted out of the way and my horse finally stopped. And that's how I learned my dogs whoa command is better than my horses.
