  • Going potty and snow

This is our first winter in a place with snow. How do we deal with the pee? We have a huge area with packed snow + ice + dog pee.

I have two dogs which makes it worse.

  • I’ve been using an LED leash for night walks — anyone else tried one?

I recently switched to an LED leash for my dog because we walk a lot at night, and honestly… I didn’t expect it to make this big of a difference.

My dog is way more visible, cars notice us earlier, and I feel much safer.
The retractable part is also smoother than the normal ones I’ve used.

I’m curious — does anyone here also use LED leashes?
Did they help with visibility or your dog’s behavior during night walks?

Would love to hear your experience. 🌙🐶

  • My Dogs Winter Coat doesn’t fit that well…recommendations?

I have a very fit/solid 60 pound BoxHerd (Aussie Boxer Mix)…. we go out all the time in uber cold so I started her on a jacket which she has come to be OK wearing.

Because of her shape I can't find one that fits well….she has that enormous Muscular Boxer chest and when I find one in which her front legs can move freely, it doesn't gather up again at her waste. We tried every one they sold at Petsmart. The ones that fit her waste were choking her chest and neck, and the ones that fit her Shoulders looked like the was dragging a tent, AND the neck hole was ridiculously loose.

The one we have now is a little too tight on her chest , but at least it's not trailing…..Would like to find a Better Boxer/Dobie, muscular dog type of fit. Any idea's? Customs brands? any info would be appreciated.

  • Should I get a dog?

I'm looking to get a standard poodle. Currently live in an 850 sqft apartment. No backyard, but I am already an outdoorsy person and go outside a lot. I WFH and have a 5 yr old as well.

I've been thinking about getting a dog all year and haven't fully acted on it because of financial reasons. It's not that I don't think I can afford an animal, I don't know what to expect with owning an animal since I don't have one and don't know anyone who owns one. I get there is emergencies that are unpredictable, but food, toys, routine visits, and other necessary things a dog needs and not knowing how much that all costs is worrying me. Any insights would be helpful! If anyone feels a standard poodle wouldn't be right for me, I'm open to other breed recommendations!

  • Name

Hi, with my wife we can't agree on name for our Havanese dog we're getting next week. Can't share photo, he's male. We're thinking about Loki, Timmy and Eddie. But we want to know other name suggestions, that might land better for that little new family member.

  • How to handle a super-hyperactive dog

My dog is 1 year old, he is large and weighs 44lb. He is super-hyperactive, bites feet and destroy everything he sees ( well not everything just his blankets and toys) . We castrate him on friday, and today was running, barking and biting when he was angry cause he wants to stay outside, something he can't do for 2 weeks (I just take him to do a little walk in the garden). I don't know if anyone has a dog like mine, just to picture him he is like Marley from Marley and Me but worse. I am desperate.

  • Update on dog food storage situation

My wife found a Buddeez container at Marshall’s, for a decent price, that says it holds up to 32lbs. It held 23lbs of food out of 30lb bag. Awesome.

  • Dog/house sitting for a family members untrained dog

I’m looking after my mums animals and house while she’s gone on holiday for six weeks so I’m living here for that time , she told me all the animals were well trained and I know all the animals well and they’re amazing but she got a new dog around two years ago and he’s always outside apart from when he was a puppy but he seemed pretty well behaved .

However it’s in the middle of summer and it’s pretty hot so I can not leave the dogs outside during the day from around 10am to 4pm because It’s just way too hot , I open the back door to let them in and the new dog absolutely slams into me and goes crazy will absolutely not settle down and this is the dog she claims to be the most trained , he’s jumping up trying to get things off the counters and then hears a cat and goes crazy at the door scratching and barking and then pees everywhere .

Now the new dog has settled in with my scent and the fact I’m here properly I thought maybe it might be a new person excitement or craziness idk but it’s been a week and he’ll be calm inside laying down then will just stand up and pee everywhere even when the back doors open and when I try to take him out for wees he refuses to go outside and then goes crazy running around the house and barking , I’ve tried catching him in the act and kicking him out to finish his business telling him no but he just sits at the door barking and I’ve tried showing him the wee saying no and he just goes crazy , he won’t listen at all , everytime I open the door to let him in I get pretty much body slammed and if I do anything at all like touch something in the kitchen or move something he goes nuts at the noise not to mention everytime I try to get down the area to the cats he follows me and tries to barge past and he’s a pretty big dog plus I was told do not let him around the cats at all so it’s just annoying constantly worrying about him getting them .

When I told her he’s been peeing in the house she just said yeah he’s not used to being inside so he’s marking his scent , but he’s not sniffing anything or peeing onto anything he just stands ups and wees everywhere on the floor but I’m not a big dog person so I’m not sure , I’ve tried to stop the barging inside by telling him to sit then stay until I move out of the way and then say inside which he’s starting to get the hang of but if food is involved at all I’ll get body slammed , I have to make sure he’s somewhere else when I put his food down and then get away from the door and let him out otherwise he’ll jump onto me / bite my hands or go nuts .

I do not know what to do so any advice at all is appreciated , I’ve spoken to her about his behaviour already and all she can say is that’s how he is and he’s excited because he’s never inside .

  • Ethical German Shepherd breeders in California.

Hello! I’ve wanted a German Shepherd my whole life, and I’ve spent countless hours researching their needs and what it takes to care for them responsibly. Now that I finally have the time, space, and financial stability to welcome one into my home, I’ve started my search for the right breeder. I initially looked into adopting an older shepherd from a shelter, but because I have other animals and children in my home, I decided that getting a shepherd from a breeder would be the best fit for me. Now I’m just looking for an ethical German Shepherd breeder here in California!

  • How long did it take your pups to get used to your new home? Anything to be prepared for?

I am moving to a new house in February and am curious how my dogs will react. They are both four years old. Anything I should prepare for? Any way to make them feel at ease?
