  • When is the best time to get the next dog

My wife and I have two Great Pyrenees mix dogs, one is almost 3 and the other just turned 11. The older one is still doing really well for her age just has a little bit of arthritis but otherwise she's doing good. The younger one is very active and could use a sibling that can keep up with her. She also is very attached to the older pup and it's already breaking our hearts thinking about what loosing the older one will do to her. We are wondering when the best time in our situation would be to adopt another puppy. Would it be wise to get one while the older pup is still alive so our younger one has another sibling, or would it be better to wait so our older dog isn't being bothered with everything that comes with a puppy. Basically our older pup is an angel and we want to make sure we don't do anything to make her life harder as she gets older. The more I type this out the more I think we need to wait but I want to hear others opinions and experiences in similar situations.

  • Advice for My Senior Beagle’s Urinary Incontinence

Hello, I have a 12-year-old Beagle who is one of the most loved members of our family. We adore him deeply. We always knew that challenges like this could come with having a dog, but I’m reaching a point where I really need some help.

We normally take him out three times a day for pee, and he never used to have accidents to pee at home. But for the past month, he hasn’t been able to hold his urine at all. We took him to the vet, and they prescribed Propalin, saying it works for about 50% of dogs. It’s been a week, but there hasn’t been much improvement.

I’ve bought different types of diapers and various cleaning products, but the whole house is starting to smell. I know he’s not doing this intentionally he’s constantly dripping and simply can’t control it.

I’m just wondering if you have any advice or recommendations that might help?

  • Is Apoquel expensive everywhere?

I’m curious to know what other countries charge for Apoquel. My dog was put on 16mg since before I adopted her and we cannot do without it.

The price is (like everything else) constantly rising and I pay now nearly double what I used to.

Just for these tablets (100) it’s £190. Her total medication per year is now just shy of £1000.

She does have ins but these issues were present before I adopted her (but I somehow still have to pay 1.2k PA for that)

I’m pretty sure the patent runs out on this med soon, but that’s not to say the pharma companies will decrease their prices.

  • Do your pups also sit like this at home, looking like they’re plotting something mischievous? 😆

Bruce curled up in his little bed today, looking innocent, but I know him way too well. That look usually means one thing: it’s either my shoes or my socks next. But honestly, his tiny mischief makes the whole house feel warmer, even on a rainy day. What kind of “trouble plans” do your fur babies make? Tell me so I can mentally prepare too. 🐶💛

  • Can I clip the feathering and underside of my cavalier poodle cross?

Honey is a 3y/o cavi poodle cross, but it seems she's inherited more on the cavi side since her coat is identical to a pure bred cavi and she sheds like crazy. Her coat has only recently grown out to a long length, prior to this she was quite shorthaired so I didn't feel the need to take her to the groomers. I want to keep her top coat length the same bc I know there is a lot of contention about not shaving cavis and maintaing their double coat. I'm wondering if it's ok to clip (using a long length guard) just her feathering, underside and butt curtains for hygiene reasons. I know many people trim these areas with scissors, so I can't see any difference in clipping with a long length guard. Please let me know what you think.

  • Does anyone know what this dog toy is called? I can’t seem to find it anywhere!

It's basically a bunch of threads wrapped around a squeaker, and the dog needs to unknit the threads with their teeth to get to the squeaker. It's soooo good and keeps my dog mentally engaged for months trying to solve it.

  • Separation anxiety

So I got a puppy a couple weeks ago and I wanted to know how to slowly ween them off of sleeping with me. I wanted us to bond for the first couple weeks so we sleep together on the couch. I figured it’s time to start sleeping back in my bed.(she can’t be in there because it’s all carpet and she has accidents still). How do I go about it?

  • Why do dogs take their heads out of the car but get angry if you blow on them?

It seems contradictory, but perhaps it has an explanation.

Perhaps, when the dog sticks its head out, the wind feels natural and allows it to smell or cool down. Instead, direct blowing in the face may be perceived as a threat or invasion of your personal space. What do you think, maybe it could it be something else? Edit: Im quite sure my breath is fine, thank you 🙂

  • Helping Anxious Dogs Feel Confident

Many dogs get nervous in new situations, loud noises, strangers, or even just leaving the house. Helping them build confidence early makes a huge difference.

Tips to help anxious pups: • Short, positive exposures – let them experience new things slowly and safely • High-value treats – reward brave or calm behavior immediately • Safe space -create a cozy area at home where they can retreat • Routine & consistency -predictability reduces stress • Patience over punishment -fear doesn’t respond to scolding

Even small wins like approaching a new person or staying calm during a car ride are huge for an anxious dog’s confidence.

How do you help your dog manage anxiety? Any tricks that actually work for your pup?

  • can dogs smell toys?

recently i got my 3 year old dachshund balls, and put them in a stocking, and ever since hes been standing below it and staring at the stocking, i thought maybe they were scented but no they are not. my other theory was he can smell his saliva (when we take away balls he knows where they are without seeing) so i have no idea how he knows the balls are there when he cant see them
