  • Scared of food, teething?

My 14 week old mini goldendoodle today decided that her kibble is poison 😅 if I weren’t a little worried it’s abnormal it would honestly be funny 😂

She hasn’t been eating meals on her own today (she’s not the most food driven as it is) and when she does that I’ll sometimes hand feed her a piece or two to get her started. So today when I’ve been doing this she lunges and barks at the kibble as though it’s an enemy, puts it in her mouth and spits it out, eventually eats one piece then does it again. When she eats that one piece it’s almost like she’s chewing on one side of her mouth. Eventually she has gone to the bowl and eaten a bit more on her own/a bit more normally. I’ve been soaking the kibble and by the time she gets around to eating it it’s fully bloated and soft but she’s still acting like this.

I’m assuming this must be teething related but searching this subreddit I haven’t seen a ton of other people post about this type of thing specifically…anyone else experience this type of behavior with a teething pup? If so how long did it last? Or is she too young for this to be teething?

  • Hoarse bark while trying to crate train

We are in the beginning of crate training our 11 week springer spaniel and she is barking a lot which is to be expected. The only thing I’m worried about is that her bark is starting to sound hoarse. Is this normal? Is there some sort of chew that is used for cases like this?

  • My fat cockapoo puppy

My 13 week old cockapoo is a big boy. He is much smaller when he’s wet, due to his fur shrinking down, but a fat boy nonetheless. He was 8 ish pounds when he was roughly 12 weeks. The vet told us he wouldn’t get bigger than 12lbs, as his parent are 14 and 17 lbs. That guess seems a little small, though

  • Enforced Nap Refusal/Tantrum

Hi, I’ve read every post and feel like I can’t find my situation. My puppy is 9 weeks, I’ve had her for 8 days.

Every nap and night time she REFUSES to sleep without protesting for 20-90 minutes. She likes her crate, she doesn’t mind hanging in there, she will sleep in there just fine once she’s asleep, but the process of falling asleep is absolutely killer.

We’ve tried rotating our physical and mental enrichments, we’ve tried keeping her up shorter before she gets over tired, idk what to do. She HATES falling asleep. Should we sit by the crate with her and let her cry until she self soothes? I can’t spend an hour putting her down for every nap.

    Thanks for any advice.

  • I think my relatives dogs like peppermint?

I’m currently at my relatives which I don’t visit much often and this is the first time i’ve used the bath and bodyworks twisted peppermint lotion, perfume & body wash here while visiting. Every time I come downstairs after putting on the lotion & perfume the 2 little dogs they have sniff and jump all over me more than they usually do.

Also they will sniff my wrist and hands that have the scent on and lick them, mainly only one of them licks for a while if I let him (he’s a licker)

Normally I pet him when he’s on the back of the couch and he will lick my hands and wrist that I freshly put the scent on, never does it without the scent😂. I’m thinking like doesn’t that taste nasty??

SO I googled and It said dogs don’t like peppermint… so why do these 2 seem to love it?

(I hope this is the right flair to use!)

  • Stinky dog

I have many dogs and never had one that naturally stinks. I recently fostered a dog and she got along with my aussie and shared her energy so I kept her. The thing is she stinks, my bedroom stinks so I was looking for a good shampoo and other recommendations to help control this.

  • My Aussie doesn’t understand no!

It probably wasn’t wise for me to choose an Australian Shepard as my first puppy. I’ve never trained a dog before and have been watching tons of videos. She’s only four months old but I’m staring to lose my mind trying to train her. When she does something wrong I tell her no and she stops or gets down or whatever and then goes right back to it a second later. Over and over again. I’ve tried distracting her with toys or whatever but nothing seems to help. I also cannot leave her alone for two seconds without her howling and barking. This makes trips away from home impossible. I don’t want to lock her in the crate to leave because I’m afraid she will start to hate the crate. Granted she doesn’t love it but she will go in there she just won’t stay in there. I stay at home 24/7 and feel like I should be making progress but am guessing I really don’t know what I’m doing. Any advise would be great on training.

  • Moving To New Place – Do Dogs Adjust Well?

I will (likely) be separating from my husband in the coming weeks, and will not leave without my black lab. Wherever I go, she goes. This was a very sudden development.

She has a bit of an anxiety issue, and I am so worried about how she will react to moving to a new home, where my husband and my step kids will no longer be. We will also be leaving behind our other dog – he's too big and barky (livestock guardian breed) to bring to rental, and it will kill me to leave him behind.

Do they adjust quickly? Will she be okay if I go to work? Should I try and bring her with me every day for a while? Will it be too much? I am hoping to move to an area that has green space to walk near.

I imagine this has been asked, so I apologize, I have been knocked sideways by all this and I have so much to sort out in very little time.

  • Chittering teeth?

My dog has started chittering his teeth. It seems pretty random with nothing I can think of causing it. He’s not cold. He’s never done this before but started a couple weeks ago. He’s a terrier and about 25 lbs, 10 yo. Should I be concerned?

  • 2 males or a male and female?

I have a 3 year old neutered male Belgian Malinois x Husky, he absolutely loves all dogs and is super submissive with both males and females. I’m starting to think about getting another dog (aka as soon as I see the perfect fit it’s mine). Either another mal, a dutch shepherd, or a german shepherd. Do you tend to prefer two males or a male and female? It might just come down to what’s available since I’m wanting another shelter dog that’s 6-9 months old. I’m willing to go to surrounding states, but if a male and female are both available and get along great with him, which would you pick? (I’m fine with a dog that’s not clingy towards me because he’s insanely cuddly but he also doesn’t get jealous if I show affection towards another dog so if the dog is clingy that’s fine too.)
