  • My puppy acts like she’s starving

Ivory my 7 week old puppy acts like she’s starving with the food we give her. How do we train/fix it cus she inhales her food and constantly acts like she’s not eating often which isn’t true cus I feed her every 4 hours and I always top her kibble with some form of wet food now that’s I’ve got her transitioned (I know a little to early but my grandma had stopped buying her wet food cus she was tired of spending money) anyways how do I fix that? Do I start training her to keep still? 😭😭😭 I’m so lost

  • Really annoyed at myself!

My little lab pup is 10 weeks old and has been doing well with house training. We've been religious in taking him out but haven't had any accidents in over a week. Today I was working at the table and heard him whimper a tiny bit, just ignored it as he'd been out 20 minutes before and done two pees. Walked over five minutes later and he'd peed by the door. I felt SO bad. He had tried to tell me he needed to go out and I was so carried away with my work, I just ignored him.

I am knackered, although he's a great pup, the disrupted sleep and constant attention needs is wearing and I'm really hauling myself over the coals for this accident, I feel like it could have been a really positive moment – if only i'd listened to him!

Not sure why I'm posting this, I'm just tired and going mildly insane. Hopefully you guys are feeling the same so I'm not completely alone in my insanity haha!

Hi, this is my first puppy ever, so I am really concerned. So this is Ruri and She's about 4 months old. And Wednesday she got one of her vaccines, Thursday she gets sick and we take her to the vet and she has to stay over night to a severe reaction to the medication. This afternoon

  • Proper Introduction

I’m about to introduce my 70 pound female to a 50 pound male. Both are lab mixes, both altered. I’ve been conflicted on how I can make this introduction as successful as possible.

First, should I introduce them on a leash, or off leash? I have a large fenced in yard. Second, should I let her smell his blanket first?

The male dog I’m getting is currently scheduled to be euthanized soon. I want so badly for this to work. Thanks so much.

  • Picking up my pup on the fifth.

But something happened so my husband might not be able to come with. It’s a 2,5 hour drive. Am I stupid if I go and pick him up by myself?

  • Megathread: Why Does My Dog Do That?

Does your dog turn his head when he hears an odd noise? Does your dog bury their food with your pants? This is the thread to ask why.

Please keep this thread to non-medical issues only.

  • Can dogs really see things we can t? Have you ever experienced something like this?

One afternoon I was spending a quiet day at home with my dog Apollo The sunlight streamed through the windows and I sat on the couch reading while Apollo laypeacefully at my feet Every now and then he d look up at me with eyes full of trust and dependence I always felt like as long as Apollo was by my side I didn thave to worry about anything Suddenly Apollo sat up straight his eyes fixed on a corner of the room His earsperked up and his tail froze in midair I got up and looked in the direction of hisgaze-but there was nothing there Apollo kept staring at the empty spacelooking unusually alert A wave of unease washed over me and I couldn t shakethe feeling that something was off I felt a bit uneasy and walked over to the window to check outside but everythingseemed normal Maybe Apollo had just noticed something small we overlookedor perhaps he had heard something we couldn t A few minutes later Apollo stopped staring and turned to look at me gentlynudging my hand as if to comfort me I stroked his head feeling warmth spreadthrough me Even though he couldn t speak I knew he had an unconditional loveand dependence on me just asl did for him Nothing unusual had really happened but the feeling of unease still lingered 1didn t know-could dogs see something we can t? Forget it. I ll just say it: can theysee ghosts or something like that?

  • Feeling burnt out by dog ownership

Does anyone else ever just feel exhausted and kind of regret having a dog despite loving them so much. I am pretty sure the heartbreak of losing my dog would traumatize me or kill me, but sometimes I just wish I never got him in the first place so I didn’t have this issue. I love him so much but I’m exhausted. I’m single and work full time and live in a tiny apartment so I have to walk him 3-4 miles a day. I have no social life and every time I go out I feel guilty that my dog is at home alone. I don’t have money for help and I don’t want to put him in daycare cause I fear the relief of not having responsibilities would feel so good I would feel even more resentful after.

However I love my dog and give him lots of love and cuddles and walks and toys. He has a good life. I’m just so tired.

  • how do I calm my dog during thunderstorms?

hi! i’m fairly new to training a dog so would appreciate any advice!!

My 1+ year old pup has suddenly become very anxious during storms. He doesn’t mind rain but he is triggered by lightning and thunder. He paces around during rain but does frantic zoomies into the rain while barking non stop. He will bark for the full duration of the storm(eg. 2-3 hours).

Ive tried to calm him down by holding him during the storms, wrapping him tightly in towels, creating a dark and dim enclosed space to calm down in, giving him chews to redirect attention. But nothing seems to work particularly well .

When the storms are less severe, he calms down in the dark enclosed space + he chews the treat and doesn’t bark. But on days where storms are heavier and the thunder can be heard indoors, even with all windows and doors closed, he goes off pacing and barking.

I wish to avoid sedating him with medication if possible. I have bought a noise muffling head wrap, yet to try. So if that has worked for anyone’s dog do share your experience 🙏

I want to try desensitising him to loud noises, if anyone has any pointers I would appreciate the help! ( how long does it take? what to avoid? is it possible that desensitisation fails?)

  • Peeing on bed

My puppy has been doing great. Peeing only on the puppy pad but last night and this morning he peed on my bed. Nothing changed and he's never done it before last night. What do I do!
