  • Dog walker gift

We have a 15 month old coonhound and a dog walker comes by once a day when we are at work for a walk and to feed him. It’s a great company and they have been wonderful – the same person does not come every day however and I want to do something in terms of a Christmas gift but we cannot afford to get something for all of them (they are about 5 who alternate – one of them comes more than the others). Is it weird to leave out an assortment of sweets and one of our cards (that has our dog on it)? I’ve looked at past posts and one person suggested a massage and there ain’t no way we can afford that. I’m not trying to be cheap, I want to be as thoughtful as I can. What about a card for each of them and leave it out on the counter? There’s no set schedule so we don’t know who is coming each day. This has actually worked out great for my dog because he’s gotten used to other people (their intent).

  • Cone of shame blues

My 4 yo dog is wearing an Elizabethan collar due a hot spot she won't stop licking. My super confident, happy girl is now sad, mopey, and extra clingy. I know this will only last a few days, and it is for the best, but this is so hard to witness. I am glad she is not mad at me for being the one who puts it on her.

Has anyone else been able to get their dog out of the funk while wearing this collar?

Edited to add: The hot spot is on her belly. I already tried the inflatable donut, but she could still reach. I also tried a surgical suit. She still licked the area and got the fabric soaked.

  • Dog show spectator etiquette?

Hi! My fiance and I just went to our first AKC dog show as spectators. We had a great time but wanted to make sure we weren't missing out on any particular etiquette. For example we were walking the grooming floor (being mindful that the people and dogs were occupied and trying not to linger) and stopped to look at a particularly beautiful dog across the aisle. The dog turned their head a bit to look at us and the groomer smacked the dog on the snout. It made us feel a little sad to see but we aren't sure what's "normal" and if we were maybe being rude or disturbing to the dogs by being in the area, so we left. Similarly with pictures, we weren't sure if it was okay to take pictures of dogs we liked or if it's more like a comic con where it's encouraged to ask first haha. We would love to attend again so we'd love to know any etiquette we may not be aware of as outsiders.

  • Any experience with the Aosom 2 in 1 stroller/carrier?

Looking to get a carrier for a shih-tzu. If I can do both bike and walk with it that would be ideal.

Am open to any others around that price range.

  • My dog won’t leave my other dog alone after they get taken to the groomers

Not so sure how to flair this but yea, basically every time we pick them up from the groomers my dog won’t leave my other dog alone. It’s like he’s obsessed with him. I’m not sure if it’s maybe his smell that attracts him to my other dog (the lady who usually cuts their hair puts like a dog perfume on them). My other dog doesn’t seem so fond of being sniffed and followed around all day either. How can i fix this?

Eventually my dog does leave my other dog alone but the first day back from the groomers is a always hassle.

  • 2 adult dogs randomly started peeing in just one room of the house

Hi! New here. I have three adult dogs, two hound mixes and a senior St. Bernard. In the past 2 or 3 months, but the hound mixes (female 4yr and male 2yr) have started peeing in my room. It's been 5 times total, all different places, minus the spot I stepped in tonight by my bedroom door (peed in front of twice now). I have carpet in my room and have forever. I have no idea what could've triggered this in two of my dogs. If it were just one of them, I would think it was a UTI or other health problem, but I feel that is unlikely with both of them. It's driving me crazy. Any advice or experience ya'll have had with this, I would greatly appreciate it!

  • Taking a sniffy dog for a walk

My beloved Mason is a Transylvanian hound. Your average dog has a sense of smell which is many degrees of magnitude beyond a person's. Then you have a hound dog who's exceptional for a dog.

Which means, walking this goober in the snow, he caught a scent in the air, then tracked it through two-inches of virgin snow, over ten feet, before he found the spot and added his urine intel.

If you're a fugitive, you don't stand a chance against Mason.

Speaking of fugitives, now that it's chilly Mason isn't quite so casual about our walks. He grabs a scent and drags my ass behind, and it sometimes feels as if we're tracking a fugitive!

Damn do I love this dopey dog!

  • Juggling recall and scent chasing

My dog occasionally starts chasing a scent, dog, bird ect. He’s recalled off chasing scents, but I feel bad spoiling his fun, but if I let him keep chasing he will get further and further away and likely stop listening (he has before, he’s always come back, but luckily there’s never been another distraction like a dog for example). Would it be best to immediately recall him once i notice this behavior and then play some games with him to he’s calmer, then release him again? I think as his recall improves I could probably be more lenient. But as of right now it doesn’t feel safe to let him chase a scent, especially if it’s a dog scent as that will be tracking all across the park!

  • Winter Boots for dogs

    Hello guys:)

We just got our first dog and we reached his first winter. Unfortunately he has a lot of problems with the snow and the salt with his paws so we were considering getting him snow boots so our baby stops struggling for his walks since we live in a very cold and snowy area.

Does anyone has recommendations especially for smaller/ mid size dogs? Thank you in advance 🥰

  • Dogs in Winter

I’m exhausted and don’t have the energy to play with my dog. I hate winter (we have it really cold and wintry here) and I’m too afraid to slip and fall on ice to walk or play with my pup outside much. How do I keep my dog happy in winter when I feel like I barely have the energy to do anything at all?

I wouldn’t say my pup is high maintenance- he is a Pomeranian for reference. He’s young and potty trained and I have him in training classes. He is great in his classes but I don’t know what to do when I come home from work and all I have the energy to do is sit and read or chill and knit. And he starts yapping or barking at me to do something.

    Help. Please be kind.

P.S. I don’t live alone and my family helps as much as they can.
