  • Got a new dog & feeling huge regret – help

For context, my beloved rescue dog passed away 2 years ago. He was my soul mate, and I had him for a decade.

We’ve just got a new rescue dog on Sunday, and I feel complete regret. I don’t love her at all, I don’t want her near me, and I feel like I’ve made a huge mistake.

I usually love all dogs, but I just don’t like her. I’m not sure if it’s because I feel trapped. I really want to love her – it’s taken us ages to find a dog, and finally we have one, and I don’t like her!

My partner has really bonded with her, too.

Please someone help – how can I fall in love with her? I don’t want to give her away. I feel desperate, sad, and alone.

  • Puppy acting out

    Hello everyone!

My 8 month old whippet has started to act out recently and I am worried it’s because separation anxiety. We have crate trained her since the beginning and we had no problems before. However recently she has DESTROYED her bed, chewed and pulled down curtains from the hangers (through the crate) and she even managed to dent her own crate by pulling it with her teeth. Some days when I come home, she is sleeping peacefully but other times it’s a nightmare.

Has anyone had the same experience with a puppy? What should I do?

For further context: our puppy is usually alone during the morning from one to four hours max. She is super cute and chill when we are home. She is regularly walked and played with.

  • Leasing a car with 2 Labradors

I’m thinking of leasing a Tiguan for a few years as I have a baby on the way and 2 Labradors, my current car (Mini Cooper) has just completely died.

Has anyone leased a car with dogs that shed and ran into any trouble on returning the car?

I’m thinking a boot liner and a dog guard should help?

I was also going to get a car hammock for the back seat just incase they even need to go on the seats

Any other suggestions please let me know, I’m going to get leather seats as I feel like they don’t hold dog smell, I am not sure what else?

  • Peeing conundrum

I've asked if females differ a lot from males a while ago and some people warned me about the long decision making when it comes to finding peeing spot. Oh boy, oh boy, I didn't know it could be so serious..
My girl moved from countryside to a town and she's super stressed about walks in general, plus she pees every 10h (on the floor). Is there a way I can help to get used to the city-reality and make walks pleasurable?
She's a 10 month old pupp which used to live outside all the time..

  • New Dalmation (Rescue, 1 1/2 years old)

    Hey fellas.

I'll jump into it. We found a Dalmation abandoned at a gas station. Kennel, leash included. He's not chipped. Vet says he's about a year to a year and a half old.

Got him all the first rounds of shots etc. Got him better bedding for the kennel. Food bowls, treats, toys. Getting him out multiple times a day to get out of the 1 bed/1 bath apartment and stretch his legs. Rest of the time we're playing with a squeak toy.

Looking into a slatmill for running for the days we can't get out due to weather. He has some basic training (knows sit, lay. Lay he tends to avoid at times though, and knows to go for the door when he needs to use the restroom). Looking into getting further training for him to reinforce what he knows, as well as teach him discipline and self control (so he can stop jumping on me, the counters, etc) as well as socialized with other dogs.

All of this has been in the past 24 hours. I want to give the dog a good home and I know he'd be good for me to help keep me engaged and a good running buddy.

That said; I am freaking out. It's a one bedroom, one bathroom apartment. I'm a cop who works nights and overtime. I do have several partners chipping in to dog sit, float costs, keep him engaged, etc. But unsure how long that'd last.

I just don't know if I'd be better off finding him a bigger place or what. I'd hate to let him go, I know what good he could do for me, but it isn't about that, it's about giving him the best life he could have.

    Anyway. Thanks in advance.

  • Is fostering 12 puppies and 1 mama doable?

My local shelter needs a foster home for 12 puppies and 1 mama.

I work from home and have the space. Wondering if this is doable? This would be my first assignment.

  • (BEAGLES) Moving and will have less than desired housing situation

So due to work opportunities I will be moving short notice to the other side of the country. The house I'm moving into won't be available for around 3 months. so for a period of around 90 days give or take I will likely be living in a one bedroom apartment with no yard. I will be out of the house at work approximately 8-10 hours a day 4 days a week.

I have two wonderful beagles and I need help or tips with anyone who has gone through this situation. they are both kennel trained and sleep wonderfully in their kennels at night. How can I keep them from going crazy? a good walk in the morning and at night? maybe hire someone to walk them mid day? tips for setting the house up for success while they are alone all day?

For more context they are used to being around my spouse all day and have free range to a big back yard. Due to some other issues (not important to the context of the question) the dogs have to move with me before the family moves.

I know it will be tough but since it's temporary I'm willing to push through. thanks for any help!

  • Refuses to pee outside, help!

My dog does his business outside most the time, but will pee on the rug if we're not paying enough attention to his signals (im still trying to learn his signals) but recently its hit the single digits and negatives, and he starts shivering in about 30 seconds and refuses to do his business outside. Its gotten to the point he wont even wake me up to go out (its been his routine for a while). Hes bundled up every time, but he just wont do it

  • I love my good boy so much

Mason's my 10-year-old Transylvanian hound whom I adopted in May. I walk him at least once a day, he goes out with me, just generally is my bestest buddy. He's always with me.

He (90 pounds) loves to sit with me, *on* me, and often enough crushes my balls with his enormous paw, asshole. He can't sit with me when I'm in my easy chair, so I give him hugs. He isn't crazy about the hugs, he wants to sit on me, his giant head on my lap.

Anyway, he's a goof and I love him and he annoys me and I love him. Dopey dog.
