  • Do you leave multiple dogs out/loose alone together in the house when you’re gone?

When you leave home, do you leave multiple dogs out alone together loose in the house? Do you crate one or more dogs to avoid issues? Our trainer says that she never recommends leaving multiple dogs loose in the house even if they love each other 100% of the time and have never fought. Curious to see what most people do as we just got a puppy and have a six-year-old dog. We plan to keep the puppy crated and our other dog loose since he’s not destructive and never has been. She’s a question mark on that front lol

  • Getting my first dog! What should I do on the first day?

So I’m getting my very first dog in two weeks and I’m a little nervous about how to make him comfortable in his new space.

What should I do? Should I give him space? Should I keep him on a leash?

    Any help would be awesome!

  • Dog park

My dog loves going to the dog park usually, today however she was acting anxious on the way and pinned down a golden, she's a boxer, golden is fine, not even shaken. But its odd for her any advice or reasons this might have happened? She's never immediately not liked any other dog before.

  • Megathread: Pet Insurance

Which pet insurance is best for you? Are there any that may cover your dog's current treatment? Did your dog get injured during the waiting period and want to know if you're covered?

    Here's the place to ask.

Do know we cannot help you here with medical concerns, and lying or not disclosing things to the insurance company is illegal so we don't allow that either.

  • Dog is ripping plants out -_-

I have a 9 year old GSP x Kelpie x Lab; for some background; she grew up with another older dog who is now gone and she had training as a pup.

Recently, she has been pulling plants out of the garden, not really digging, more just ripping the plant clean out of the ground. I have never encountered this issue before and am so unsure how to correct this (she also does dig which is driving us mental but that's another, smaller issue).

We've tried spending more time with her inside and out, playing and getting more toys (she doesn't play with them unfortunately for us), she tends to do this behaviour when I am away from the home and when we return will hide from us as we have told her off for doing it.

Any ideas on what we can do to stop her from doing this? We've considered a small, decorative fence along the garden bed or sectioning off part of the yard so she can't access the spot (though we're worried this will encourage her to dig more into the grass).

  • Canine clean up training

my rescue bagel dog didn't have toys until we got him. because of this, he loves finding trash on our walks to play with.

is there a way I could train him to put it in a bag when he finds it, instead of throwing it around and leaving it when he's done?

  • Help – my dog has become very fearful on solo walks, how to rebuild her confidence?

    Hello everyone!

I'm desperate for some help with my dog, who has recently become very fearful and apprehensive on solo walks with just the two of us.

TL;DR: my 2 year old chi mix has recently become quite fearful on walks, even though we used to walk miles together daily without issue. We've ruled out pain, and she walks happily with other dogs and people in the group, but solo walks are hit or miss. Any suggestions for getting back to normal?

    The details –>

    About my dog:

    • ~2.5 years old
    • Chi mix
    • Owned since 10 weeks
    • No fear/anxiety on walks previously, she has always enjoyed daily walks and likes a lot of activity in her day

    About the behavioral situation:

    • Started about 2 months ago
    • A few things happened all at once:
      • One scary trip to the beach where there was a lot of activity and she got overwhelmed
      • I sustained a back injury and wasn't able to walk her for a few weeks
    • After these instances, when we tried to get back to our 'normal' walking routine, everything we encounter sends her into an anxiety attack

    The behavior:

She wants to go for a walk, we leave the house, make it a few blocks, and then inevitably, we'll encounter some noise, person, etc. that will trigger her. She then wants to rush back home and has a difficult time coming back down from that anxiety.

    What I've been trying:

    • Short, slow, sniffy walks around the house with lots of treats, ending on a high note
    • Walking with other people and dogs both in my neighborhood and away from home (again, she's basically fine/normal when other dogs and people are present)
    • Resolving pain – she has luxating patellas, I've been advised against surgery, but we are doing a course of NSAIDs to rule out the impact of the discomfort
    • Chatting with a trainer – she recommended ruling out pain, but didn't have any other additional suggestions

I don't want to go the route of permanent meds at this stage, as she's not generally an anxious dog.

Any help or advice you all can provide would be so appreciated! I feel so bad for my little dog, I hate that she's going through this and would do anything to help her, but I just can't quite figure it out.

  • Dog keeps begging for apples even though he doesn’t like apples?

He's not jumping or doing anything dangerous or anything. He just stares, really, so it's easy to ignore, I just find it extremely odd that he keeps asking for food that he spits out if you actually offer it to him. And then he asks for more? Even if he spat it out?

Any possible reasons my dog does this?
