  • What to do when it rains?

Puppy has been doing good going outside now! However now it’s pouring and she’s scared but when she goes inside like potty my grandma locks her outside in the rain for like 5-10 mins each time and i think that’s just not good? So how can i help her go potty outside in the rain so my grandma stops locking her outside. Do i use an umbrella and follow her?? Is it ok she goes potty inside since she’s barely 2 months? Any advice will help since it’ll rain the rest of the week

  • New puppy home for 5 hours and hasn’t played/drank/peed

Bought our 10 week old puppy home today and like the title says, she hasn’t done anything for 5 hours, just slept on our laps.

I visited her twice with mum and the rest of the litter, and both times she was playing and had lots of energy. Breeder sent picture/video updates regularly and she was playing/exploring/growing normally.

She has been to the vet and had microchip and vaccinations, apart from a small umbilical hernia there were no health concerns reported.

Is she just decompressing after a big day?

    Thanks

  • First time puppy owner – potty training

    Hi All,

Wanted to seek some advice since I just got my first puppy.

He is 8 weeks old, and I've had him for a week. We've been focusing on potty training from day 1 with treats and positive reinforcement when he does it right. After 2 days of pooping and peeing in the correct spot (even whimpering when he had to pee or poop so I can open the door for him), he completely regressed to peeing and pooping everywhere but the trained spot.

Is this normal and I was just living the dream for 2 days? Thanks in advance!

  • Staring at me but does not seem to want interaction

I’m curious on what to do when my puppy is staring at me. She is 9 months old. Sometimes she will just sit right in front of me and just stare. She does not want to be petted or brought on the couch – she will just move away from my arms. I think she might be like “what’s next”. Like this morning, we went on a walk (25 mins), after her breakfast, we played (5-10 mins – also, she seems to not want to play more than 5-10mins these days), trained for a few minutes, then sniff mat (it took about 5 mins), and then I gave her something to shred (5 mins). Like more than enough stimulation for a 9 months old bichon poo in the morning (I believe!?). She is now sleeping on the couch after all that staring. Do I ignore her staring (or ignore half the time)? Do I stare back (lovingly I mean, like I believe it can be affection)? What do you all think? She does not demand bark but I guess it might be demand staring. 🤣 I just feel bad when I ignore her, but I don’t want her to think everything revolves around her (even though it kind of does but she doesn’t need to know that lol).

  • Manners around other dogs

We have a 5 month old spaniel (she's half springer, quarter cocker and quarter poodle) and she's a great dog but one of the main things we're struggling with is training her to be well-mannered around other dogs.

I am at my parents' house for Christmas and they have 2 sprollies (7 years old and 5 years old). They're lovely dogs but our spaniel just cannot calm down and won't leave them alone. She is just constantly wanting to play and getting all up in their face when they're just trying to exist peacefully.

She's not overly nippy but she's always jumping up and pawing for their faces and I can tell they find her too boisterous. I know she is a spaniel so she is a bit mad but I'm just not sure how to teach and reinforce boundaries without getting in the way of the older dogs establishing boundaries themselves. They often snap at her and bare their teeth to warn her to back off, and she'll take it and then jump right back in. I know that generally it's good to let things play out safely so that the puppy will learn, but it really seems like she's not learning to chill the heck out.

She is similar with other dogs – overly friendly and zero chill. Her best friend is a big lab and she doesn't tell our puppy off until she really really is over it.

Any tips, tricks or advice? Thank you in advance 🥹

  • Potty training in Canadian Winter

I have a 4lb chihuahua puppy who is 4 months old. The people I got him from trained him on puppy pads but I want him to know how go outside so he doesn’t have accidents on rugs or carpet. He is a very skittish puppy so getting the coat and leash on him is very difficult. Then I carry him outside to the potty area. I bring him out every 1-2 hours. I tell him “go potty” as his cue.

When I put him down, he freezes. It’s -10c/14f or colder out. He will stand there helplessly, or start climbing up my legs trying to get warm. He is so scared he won’t accept any treats so even if he did go I wouldn’t be able to reward him. We haven’t been successful in him going outside even once in the week we’ve had him.

How long will it take until he gets comfortable enough being outside to go pee? It’s getting very frustrating.
