  • Help with our 2 month puppy

    Hello all.

Recently we got a puppy named Loki.

We are trying our best to get him potty trained but we have some troubles during the last 4 days. He doesnt have a problem telling at night when he want to go out, he starts moving in his bed and squeeks a bit.

During the day he doesnt do that, without warning he sits down on his bed in the living room and pees, before i can get up its to late unfortunately, then we take him still outside to get the association to pee outside. Today he didn't wanna go outside we have taken him for 20-30 min walk but he doesn't do anything. He walked a bit and then sits down and pulls back to home, after that and being back inside he peed on his bed in the living room, he doesn't do that on his bed in the night.

    Any idea why?

We also used treats to lure him, then he comes up to us and takes it and then sits down agian. Every time he peed on his bed in the living room we put it straight away in the washingmachine so he doesn't have the scent association with peeing there, although i happend 3 times in 4 days so far..

When he did it outside we praised him for doing that and then he gets very happy and jumpy

Any tips that help will be very welcome and appreciated šŸ˜€

What we already found out so far is that we have to take him outside everytime he wakes up from a nap.

  • My puppy is very reactive to animals on TV

My puppy is very reactive to animals that appear on the TV. She barks a lot when the popup on the screen, which is unlike her as she rarely barks. Horses in particular seem to be her least favorite. When we play the same video on our phones she does not really react.

Any advice or training that can be done to prevent this? We have a baby on the way so it may be difficult to avoid having animals on the screen in the future!

  • Me again…sorry šŸ™ any advice appreciated.

So I was here with the puppy blues about a week ago and now we’ve got our red Labrador puppy who is 10 weeks on Friday. He’s hard work but honestly he’s great. He sleeps in his crate fine for naps, goes through the night bar maybe the odd accident but generally he’s awesome. He’s learnt his name, sit, wait, paw, fetch and chase. I enjoy his company but I’m doing it on my own pretty much due to me girlfriend having an appalling time with illness in her family as her sister is recovering from encephalitis and the prognosis isn’t very good, although when we ordered him she was recovering and everything was looking rosy. She doesn’t have a lot of capacity for additional stress and normally she’d be all over this but she feels like she’s checked out a little. I have ADHD and find change hard anyhow but we have really got lucky with this guy I think. My brain knows I will be so sad and upset if he goes back to breeder but even still I feel stressed and on edge with him due to the responsibility of it all and how time consuming it is. Wouldn’t have been an issue if the Mrs wasn’t back and forth to hospital. I’ve bonded with him so much and think he’s great, but it’s tough

I guess my question is, how much longer until he becomes easier and doesn’t need me for entertainment all the time?

Sorry for whining, just want to do the right thing, including if that’s going back to the breeder as getting a puppy has obviously come at totally the wrong time.

  • Suddenly my dog won’t stop licking me

All of sudden my dog won’t stop licking me. It only happens at night, at first I thought it was related to loud noises but there were no loud noises tonight. He also does it only to me, not my partner. It was extra aggressive tonight, when I’d try to hide my arms in my sweater and my face he’d aggressively dig at my head to get the hat I was wearing off to find open skin to lick. He also tried humping while licking, also a first. What does all of this mean? I saw it could be about anxiety but why just lick me?

  • What can I do to train him?

Hey guys, I have a 5 year Chiweenie (possibly beagle too). I got him when he was 2, and I slacked off and never did any training, besides potty training. I never knew much about dog training and just didn’t think to do it.

He’s very obedient inside, but outside he does not listen at all. He barks at everything; and he’ll run off and not listen. He escapes from the backyard and it takes me forever to catch him because he just runs right past me and refuses to listen.

With him being 5, is there anything I can to still get him trained?

He doesn’t escape anymore because I put him on a tether now. Just moved and the fence isn’t great so until I can line the entire fence with cement blocks, I just tether him.

  • Snow covered yard, when are temps too cold?

Hi. Was hoping to get some seasoned opinions. I know concrete in cold temps can be dangerous for our dogs but when do temps get too low for dogs to run around snow covered grass yards?

  • Weirdest post dinner ritual?

My boy has a WEIRD post dinner ritual.

He eats, about half of his food. He leaves the other half to snack on through the night, and then he drinks. He comes running over to me on the couch, perches his front paws on my shoulder (very daintily, he's a pretty pretty boy), and gives me a lick on my cheek before running off for new activities. Sometimes he just flops backwards onto the couch to get his belly rubbed, which I mean. Fair enough.

Tonight he added a burp in my face, then hopped down and licked his balls, so it's not always as cute as it sounds!

Do your pups do anything weird/to thank you? My other boy (Tank, officially one year ago he passed) would always get excited beforehand and would drool while sitting still until he got the ok. He'd wait for that ok every time though! Afterwards he'd just walk over to me licking his nose and walk away.
