  • Do you bring your dogs to daycare?

Everytime I see my dog in the video while I’m working for 8-9hrs I do feel bad for her. I do give her with lots of kisses, treats and attention whenever I’m at home. I still don’t feel that’s enough, so I decided to bring her to a daycare.

She had an experience with daycare before already, but there was no camera, though everytime I picked her up she always seemed so happy and tired. I love my old daycare/vet, but it’s a 40min drive for me and I had to look for a new one.

Last Saturday was her first time in the new daycare and there were cameras wherein I can watch her. She didn’t interact with dogs at all, she was so timid and felt so sad watching her. Caretakers didn’t interact with her too unlike to my old daycare.

Should I still bring her to a daycare? I am looking for a new one again where there will be interactive games/activities.

Also I am aware she just likes dog watching especially under the sun and only gets excited when humans will give her attention.

  • How do people get puppies to pose for pictures?

I didn’t choose for my puppy to pose in the position he did for my phone wallpaper, I basically waited until he was in a cute position voluntarily before I could take a good photo. If I try to put him in the position I want he won’t stay in that position

  • My dog is petrified of pin terest

My partner scrolls Pinterest from time to time, and when you pin something, it makes a tick sound first, and then the belltone rings. The minute he hears the tick, he's shaking. When the belltone hits, he runs away to find me. Literally petrified. Tries to get in my lap and feels like he's shivering. It is ONLY with the Pinterest pinning sound. We've played other sounds before and nothing. Nothing traumatizing can be correlated with this either as that was a thought. We are baffled and have to leave the room now to browse Pinterest.

Has anyone else dealt with this or did I just get one of a kind?

  • Separation anxiety, but only when in the same household?

Hello, I read the wiki but this is a very specific question and situation. So my boyfriends parents and I both got puppies. They are 5 months old and grew up together. Since my boyfriend is home from work during the day, I drop my pup off at night on the days before I work the next day so he can care for them both until they are old enough to be left alone while we are at work.

We are trying to get them used to being kennelled separately since one day they will no longer be together every day. But 2 nights in a row now, since trying to kennel them separately, they get anxiety and mess in their kennels. They are let out regularly overnight to potty and can hold it just fine when they are in their individual households.

However, when they know they are in the same house as each other, it causes anxiety and they stress and mess in their kennels and we don’t know what to do. They are completely fine over the weekend when they are not in the same house.

Any advice or any products that have a high success rate for this anxiety? I have read the wiki, but the problem is exactly that they dont have separation anxiety in seperate households while being kennelled, but if they are separated in the same house, they are anxious and make a mess unless they are together in the same kennel.

  • Potty Training with Clicker and other questions

Hello! We are using a clicker to mark when our puppy goes potty outside, then she immediately gets a treat. I know that I’m supposed to mark the behavior after she goes, but after she squats, she sniffs around. Since that is “part of the process”, should I click as she is coming up from squatting or after she is done with her sniff. Reason I’m asking is because it stops her from doing the sniff if I click it on her way up from the squat, and I’m sure that’s an important part of the process for her, but also want her to immediately recognize the reward for going outside.

If you catch your puppy pooping or peeing inside, how do you handle? Do you say anything like “no” or “outside”? Then take them out?

Anything special I should if I find the poop/pee in the house, but don’t catch her in the act (besides cleaning with enzyme cleaner)?

  • Clicker training tips, how can I motive my dog to get creative and try things?

I recently got a new dog. She is 15 months old and we are getting to know each other.

With clicker training you can of course manoeuvre or lure your dog and then click the desired position or action, which can be super effective. I do think however that with that approach the dog is more motivated with whatever lure you use, and less with what he/she is doing. The other strategy is basically to start the “what do I want game” where the dog intrinsically tries out different things, and you click when he gets closer towards your goal.

With that last strategy, the dog is imho more engaged in thought, more aware of what it is doing at time of click, and is actively thinking and using its brain and its basically a fun, effective puzzle to figure out.

My previous dog really understood the assignment and pulled out all the stunts. We had so much fun! And it really built his confidence.

My new dog just… doesn’t get it. I try to get into training mode, asking her a couple things, play a bit etc. She is great with the lure and click, and it’s not a lack of motivation, she clearly is into it. But if I’m not actively luring or asking anything from her she just sits there. Looking at me. She really is just too **** polite!

I don’t know how to teach her/make her understand that I want her to be curious and creative and really just do anything other than sitting and staring at me, waiting for me to do or say something.

Any tips on getting her to switch over from me asking behavior or movement to her offering behavior or movement?

  • My 3 year old dog is jealous of my kids

Hi. I’m looking for some advice on what to do in this situation. I have a 3 year old female mittelspitz (with a dash of corgi), she is super kind and loving, but she loves me (mom), and I noticed she can be a bit jealous of my kids. If I cuddle with my daughter in the sofa she will come and snuggle too, but lean against me and make a sound if my daughter tries to pull the dog closer to herself. Cuz my daughter really loves the dog and wants to cuddle, but the dog just wants me… Today my daughter pulled her closer and she gave a «warning bite» (biting the air close to her arm). She also reacts if the kids try to pick her up (I’ve said they are not allowed to, so they have stoped. Just trying to paint the picture). When she was a pup she would refuse to go on walks with anyone else then me, it’s not like that now. She barks if I let her out in the garden, so I don’t let her go out alone. And she used to have a big issue with baring at dogs on her walks, but she is much better now and we really worked hard on this. So now I am noticing that she seams jealous of my kids. I don’t like that, I will soon start a new job, which means my kids will be home alone with her for 2 hours a day every afternoon during the week. What can I do to help this situation. I’ve only hade Labrador before, so I’m not used to these issues ❤️.

My kids are 13 and 10.

  • Rescue dog doesn’t know how to play

I rescued a dog 4 months ago. She’s a big white dog, probably a mix of something, maybe Maremma or Great Pyrenees. She’s approximately 3 years old.

Ever since I got her, she’s been dealing with a lot of physical issues: allergies, surgeries, and more. It’s been stressful for both of us.

She is very anxious. At first, she didn’t even want to be outside, maybe only at night. Now she’s more comfortable, but she’s very scared of men, and I think she was abused by them.

At home, she mostly just lies there. She has three spots where she likes to be and switches between them sometimes. When I give her food, she never eats it right away usually only 4–5 hours later. So she’s not food-motivated.

I tried to play with her, but she doesn’t seem to understand what I want from her. When I use a ball, she flinches when I throw it. When I try something else, she just doesn’t care.

One time I covered a ball with cheese and she got excited and started licking it, but when it rolled too far away, she just stopped.

She doesn’t like a Kong and only tries to lick the inside, never uses her paws. She did like rope toys, when I put snacks in them, she tried to get them out, but after like a min she stopped.

She’s not scared of other dogs. Usually she wants to sniff them, but nothing more. When they try to play, she just walks away.

Now, because of food allergies, we can’t give her any snacks. So I can’t motivate her with anything except long walks.

What do I do? How do I bring joy and play into her life? Please help, I want her to be happy!)
