  • Help me – teach me the basics

TL;DR – adopted a dog, stating my problems, and asking basic advice/ suggestions. Drop all the suggestions please.

Hey guys so it's been 4 days since I adopted COCO – SHE is a lab + dobermann mix, mix major traits of lab and just a hint of dobermann (dad) on her tail.

She is 2 months old. She is teething and I think she is actually a shark and not a dog. SHE BITES EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE IN SIGHT.

I got her a chew toy which is made of canvas fabric, a rope she plays a bit but the diverts to chewing furniture or people around her.

Please help me in teaching me the basics, no matter how basic or obvious the advice might be please type it in the comments, it'll definately me helpful.

I read somewhere that icecubes help them feel relief from their gum pain, i gave her twice she was enjoying, it. But again I am concerned what if she catches cold ? As it's winter.

I do train her the basic commands like sit and train, shes learning slowly.

She chooses to sleep in people's lap more rather than her actual bed.

What are the behaviours i shouldn't be progressing ? Like the sleeping on laps, etc.

She gets very furious whole I'm preparing food for her she DEMANDS to give it right away, it does look cute but again I don't know what behaviour is of a puppy and will go away in a couple of months and what could be carried as a part of her behaviour.

Idk if it's called litter trained but I take her out of my house every couple of hours and she sometimes pees and sometimes does not, same for poop time.

I giver her daily suppliments with a syringe (without needle), it's a TASK but she does drink all of it, is there a way to make that easier ?

  • My 4 month old puppy bit my cats tail

This morning (Christmas Day at the time) we were opening the pets stockings and I had given our four almost five month old puppy a pigs ear. He was on his bed behind the couch as I was giving the cat a treat on the window sill, which is right above his “place” (raised cot bed) where we typically feed him. He rushed over and scared the cat out of the windowsill and caught her tail as she ran away and bit off the tip of her tail😭 she’s currently at the emergency vet but I just don’t know what to do with myself. I didn’t even put two and two together about giving her a treat where we normally feed him so I know it’s probably my bad. They were literally cuddling on the couch last night. I just feel so bad and like we’ve taken so many steps backwards I could use some advice or encouragement from anyone who had dealt with a similar situation.

  • Premature puppy passed

Just needing some information my 2 day old puppy passed was the runt of the liter and did have some health issues upon delivery. Does anyone know any place that may offer help with cremation? I just don’t know how to handle this situation 😞

  • Is my puppy scared or just nonreactive?

I just started taking my 12 week old puppy out to socialize and today we sat on a bench and watched cars and people go by. He would occasionally get up from laying down to watch. I let a couple people and a dog come closer to say hi, but he had no reaction until they got really close, and then he would sniff them a bit. But I have no idea if he’s being this calm because he’s scared or because he’s just a chill puppy. Are there any behaviors I should pay attention to that indicate he’s actually scared during these socialization trips?

  • People are our only problem

We have a 9 week old lab puppy who is honestly just the loveliest, easiest puppy I've ever known. We are strictly managing her napping to make sure she learns to self soothe and doesn't get overstimulated which brings me to my point…

Why can people not just accept our way of doing things?! We went to visit my in-laws on Christmas Eve and she was finding the atmosphere very over stimulating with the sounds of shrieking children and a lot of people in the same room so I was keeping her close and encouraging her to sleep. My FIL kept making passive aggressive comments that I should just 'let her run around with the dogs, that will tire her out' and refused to see my point that A) 2 very high energy, overexcited large adult dogs are not suitable playmates and B) she was already tired and just doesn't know how to switch off – charging around outside make that 100x worse.

As it happened, I put puppy in her crate and sat next to her for a while and after 30 mins or so she fell asleep, just in time for us to eat dinner.

And in general, because she is cute, people seem to think they have a right to come over and get all up in her face without permission, or if we are visiting family and she is on the floor, a right to scoop her up and force attention on her. I always tell them no and am sure everyone thinks I am just a mean person!

I will always advocate for my dog and am absolutely certain that I am doing the right thing. But why do people have to make that so hard?

TL,DR: why do people seem to think they have a right to ignore puppy owner wishes?

  • Coronavirus positive – puppy 9 weeks

Hi All! My 9 week old puppy has tested positive for coronavirus ( negative Parvo and Giardia) he has mild dehydration but they gave him an anti nausea, probiotic paste and sent him home with us to monitor. He has drank a little now and is having a nap. Has anyone else’s puppy had this or a pup with dehydration and how you guys treated it?

  • Advice needed for new puppy

Hii everyone I just adopted a puppy that is now 3 months and he’s definitely a lap dog (always wanting to be in your lap or arms) and I was wondering if it’s bad to pick him up or carry him all the time? Like does that create bad wants later?

  • Do I need to upgrade my dog’s bed?

My dog (5 year old female Boston Terrier) sleeps in my bedroom overnight but in her own bed. This is a relatively new habit, and the bed she currently has is just a cheap generic stuffed dog bed. Since she now spends so much time in one specific bed (7+ hours) is upgrading to a nicer bed something I should look into? If so, what would you recommend?

I know that might seem silly, but I’m not sure how much that sort of thing actually matters to dogs. She seems perfectly content with it as long as she has a blanket to burrow in, but I couldn’t help but wonder.

  • My dog hates carrots

I’ve had six dogs in the past who loved carrots. So, naturally, we assumed our newest dog would like them as well for a quick healthy treat. Wrong. He has absolutely no interest in carrots… or celery, apples, bananas, green beans, broccoli. Loves dog biscuits, though, but too many can cause weight gain.

Any suggestions for an easy veg/fruit to give?

  • Ruff wear harness wear and tear??

Iv had my ruff wear since the end of May this year, so 8 months ish, is this type of wear and tear normal? ( link to photo in comments ) I’m thinking about going back to the place I bought it to see if it’s something they can replace maybe. But I don’t want to look silly if it’s just what happens to everyone’s!
