  • I got my puppy a yak chew today and it’s been the best night we’ve had

I don’t know what the point of my post is except to just share how excited I am to have a night of peace!

My puppy is about 5 months old, and she is a persistent land shark. I tried a hundred different things during teething; she hated anything frozen, rubber kongs and teething toys worked okay, she chewed through a ton of toys, but omg this is amazing. I read alot of your comments about yak chews and wanted to try it but I just got nervous it was too hard for her little puppy teeth.

Anyway if anyone is looking for a safe chew for persistent biters, highly recommend. Genuinely think this is the first night my nervous system has had a rest since we got her.

  • Dog behaving unusually. Depression or needs vet visit?

My male Cairn Terrier 6 year old has been acting different these past couple of days. He hasn't been coming in the kitchen when I'm eating (I give him little bites of my food) and doesn't want to go play in the backyard. He just lays in his bed in the bedroom. He did go on his walk but wasn't a excited as usual. I'm wondering if he's depressed or if I should take him to the vet.

  • Pheromone pee pads

Do washable pheromone pee pads actually work? Info I’ve seen online frequently looks suspect. I don’t like using the disposable ones for environmental reasons and don’t mind washing them, but my husband is driving me nuts by constantly sending me ads for the pheromone products.

  • Yorkie harness question

Currently we have one of the step through vest style harnesses for our Yorkie, but we are looking at other options for when the hot Southern summer comes.

I’ve been seeing the over the head style harnesses, but wasn’t sure if it would put too much pressure in the throat and neck area.

    Would one like this work?

  • Puzzle toys for genius dogs?

Not too long ago i bought my dog, maybe 3 months at the time? 2 puzzle toys from chewy brand. They got them in levels of difficulty, got her 1st and second. Theres up to level 6 i believe.

At the time she figured out the puzzles instantly "well there goes the claimed 10-20minutes of fun" few days ago i was ordering her new toys and got her level 6, gave it to her today and I swear she's smarter than a toddler. Took her maybe 2 minutes to figure it out and get all the treats.

Any suggestions for difficult puzzle toys?

  • Chew toy help

My dog recently chipped a tooth on her nylabone toy. I have since discovered that nylabones are too hard for dog teeth, and im stuck on where to go next for chew toy options. I know rawhide and antlers are a no-go, but I dont know what to give her! My dog LOVES chewing, and is an aggressive chewer.

She's uninterested in kongs and other rubber chews unless there's food in or on them, and I want to give her something that isn't just high calorie bully sticks all the time. She goes through them in under an hour, and I want something to keep her occupied and not bored while im away at work.

The act of chewing is more important than the food aspect to her, but for some reason the rubber ones just aren't as satisfying to her. We've tried yak chews and she loves them, but I’ve heard those are too hard as well. With the sheer amount she likes to chew and with how quickly she does it, I cant keep on giving her bully sticks and the like. Any suggestions? What does your dog like to chew on? Any low or no calorie options?

  • Resources on "stubborn" behavior

My partner is not always receptive to the advice I'm giving when I notice our dog isn't listening to him. When I give feedback it comes from all the knowledge I've collected through various sources and experiences so I'm struggling to find specific text or video on ways to help him.

Mostly what I've noticed is he is using long sentences to get the dog to do things like they are a small child instead of short, consistent commands. That one is easier to find resources on, but the one I'm struggling with is the timing and follow through portion. When it's his turn to take the dog out he'll start by directly saying to the dog something along the lines of "lets go for a walk/potty" and then proceed to get ready himself for 5-10 minutes before actually going out with the dog. It's reinforcing that the dog doesn't need to listen to him since he said in once (or more) several minutes ago and nothing happened.

I've tried explaining explaining the timing issue, but it's just not clicking and it's hard to find good resources because it's such a specific issue.

  • Corgi with sore hip joints after getting up.

My 7yo Pembroke Welsh Corgi has started limping a little bit after getting up from lying down for extended periods of time. He walks it off after 2-4 seconds and the vet says this just might be the way he is now if it doesn't heal naturally. X-rays show his femur isn't fully seated into his hip socket but there were no signs of arthritis or DM. It's been like this for 3-4 months and it doesn't appear to be going away. It gets worse after we go for a long walk and he doesnt seem to quite have it in him to do longer hikes anymore. What can I do get get my boy back to normal??? He's too young to suffer like this!

  • Looking for Android Dog Owners to test a free dog training app

Looking for Android Dog Owners to test a free dog training app

Hey everyone! Hope its okay to post this here.

I created a free dog training app (first time app creator, literally made it for myself to help me train my dog). I'm in the process of getting it uploaded to the Play Store, however I need 10 people with Androids to "test" it on their phone. If anyone is interested in testing it, please let me know. You don't need to do anything besides try it out on your dog 🙂

Info: HEEL Dog Training – a personalized and positive reinforcement based app with easy to follow step-by-step lessons. From basic obedience, leash manners, to potty training and even lessons on how to be a better dog owner! Take a short 30-45 second quiz and you'll get a personalized training plan based on your dog!

Thanks in advance, if anyone has any questions let me know!

  • Anybody else have a dog obsessed with dead animals?

Now that the end of winter is upon us, that means melted snow reveals lots of goodies in the form of dead rabbits, birds, mice, and vols. My golden retriever is absolutely obsessed with any and all dead animals. When I say obsessed, I dont mean that he grabs them and runs around with them or plays with them. He absolutely devours them.

We go on one or two walks each day. Hes mostly a good walker, with a good heel and doesn't pull. But when he smells and/or sees a dead bird, rabbit, or mouse, theres no amount of training that'll stop him from lunging at this old carcass and consuming it whole. Its absolutely disgusting.

Just today there was a dead rabbit that looks like it had already had god's will imposed upon it by an owl or something – it looked like it was mid-surgery, guts splayed out and all. Well my dog saw it before I did and before I could yell leave it it was in his jaws. I basically tackled him and used all my strength to pry his jaws open and release the rotting corpse of a rabbit from his maw.

This stuff happens all the time. He used to get the runs as a puppy, but over the last year or so, it seems like his stomach and immune system have caught up and are unfazed by his disgusting diet at this point.

Is this normal? Ive heard of dogs rolling in dead animals or maybe killing animals and carrying them around in their mouths, but i dont hear of absolute savages just devouring rotting carcasses whole too often like my boy does. It just doesn't seem like theres much I can do besides keep him on an extra short leash to prevent this.
