I adopted a dog from my city pound today, but their policy is that the animal cannot go home with the adopter until it's spayed/neutered and given initial shots. There's a pretty big surgery backlog right now, so we're waiting.
He's so miserable in the kennel. He just curls into a tight little ball and shakes. I hated having to leave him behind. I even brought in the records from my vet with her personal number attached (with her permission) trying to convince them I was an established, responsible pet owner and would bring him back for the surgery. I completely understand why that rule is in place, but I feel so sad for him.
Would it make it better or worse for me to start visiting and maybe bringing him treats/toys and taking him out to the visiting area every day until he is able to come home? I don't want him to feel like he's being abandoned every time, but I also hate to think of him sitting alone in terror in the kennel all day.
