Tips for flying with your dog?

Hi y’all, I will be traveling with my small dog! This is the first time ever traveling, specifically flying, with a dog. Our total travel time is 11 hours. 6 hours of flying and the rest on layover. Sucks but it was our only option ㅠ.ㅠ

I will be flying economy so I understand that he will be in a carrier. I have been training him with our carrier at home to prepare. He is an anxious dog so I plan to exercise him a lot before our flight. Someone mentioned giving him medication from our vet, but I don’t really know how to feel about that.

I have heard a little advice here and there but nobody could really tell me anything substantial. So I wanted to know if y’all have any advice/tips/tricks/anecdotes/just things to know about taking your dog on a plane!
