I’m a university student living alone in an apartment and researching dog breeds that would fit my lifestyle. This would be my first dog. I’m looking for a medium-sized, intelligent, and highly trainable dog with enough energy to enjoy daily walks, long walks, and hikes, but that can also relax at home and handle some alone time when I’m busy with school.
Training and mental enrichment are very important to me, and I’d love to do more than just basic obedience—things like tricks and possibly scent work in the future. I don’t have experience competing in dog sports, but I’m very motivated to learn and put in the work.
Right now, I’m mostly considering English Cocker Spaniels and English Springer Spaniels, and my dream breeds are Miniature American Shepherds and Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers. I plan on getting my dog from an ethical, reputable breeder that meets European standards.
I live in northern Italy, enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle, and will be the dog’s sole caregiver. I’m very open to hearing about people’s real-life experiences and any breed suggestions you might have!
