Aside from testing the dog as much as I can and instincts, what else can I do to make the dice roll of dog adoption have a better chance of rolling boxcars instead of snake-eyes? We're going to a state pound, a humane society and an out of state shelter (we live on the border.) on Friday. I just want a calm 1-4 year-old dog to be my companion for the rest of its life.
