Any advice for flying with dog in cabin?

I’ve flown with my small dog on cabin a few times now and it has never really gone great. She usually calms down in a bit but yesterday we tried to travel with her again and she bit through her carrier within 10 minutes of being at the airport and we had to leave.

I don’t think the problem is her carrier necessarily because she chooses to go in there all the time at the home, and I’ve even done short test runs where I close the carrier for a bit and she’s totally fine. I do also give her medication, a combo of gabapentin and trazodone. When I give her these meds and we’re at home she’s pretty out of it and just sleeps but yesterday she was acting like she didn’t have any meds at all.

I could really use some advice if any of you have successfully been able to travel with your dog in cabin and how? I realize she may not be a dog that can handle it but I don’t have a pet sitter and would like to make it work if I can.
