A month ago, I moved into an apartment with my dog. I should mention that she’s never been without a backyard. She’s around 12 years old and sleeps most of the day. Every night around 3 or 4 a.m., she goes to my bedroom door and starts crying and scratching because she needs to go potty. I always take her out because I don’t want her to have an accident. She’s never done this before — she used to sleep through the night without waking me up. It’s strange because I always make sure to take her out one final time before bed, even if she doesn’t seem like she needs to go. Lately, she’s also been doing something similar in the morning, around 6 a.m., asking for food — even though she normally gets fed at 8. I know it sounds cruel, but in the morning I get up, see what she wants, and she leads me to her food bowl. I go back to sleep because it’s not time yet, but then she starts scratching and whining at the door again. What do I do? Is there anything I can do, or should I just deal with it?
