Hi… I have owned seven dogs in my lifetime and the seventh dog will not go down the basement stairs. We have a nice, finished basement with a lot of room and all of our other dogs loved to hang out down there… But this one will not come down the stairs no matter how hard we try.
We have put food, treats and lunchmeat on every step…not interested. We have tried to coax with a gentle lead, reassuring voices, calm and quiet…no luck. He’s a rescue, a little over a year old, we’ve had him almost three months. He has adapted very well, has learned basic commands, is extremely affectionate and playful and behaves great. Loves to go outside in the backyard and will go down the patio steps without a problem or hesitation.
Just wondering if I’m missing a training technique or some magic way to get him to go down the stairs. He weighs about 65 pounds so carrying him is not an option. Thanks in advance.
