I’m looking to make my pup a bit safer in the car but I don’t know where to start. Currently she is buckled in with a harness in the car which is usually fine, but she keeps trying to get into the front seat which is dangerous for me and her.
I’m considering a car kennel but i drive a chevy cruze (very small car, not hatchback) and i don’t know of a way i could safely secure it. I’m also on a pretty tight budget and most car crates i’ve seen are way out of ball park for now. Her home kennel is a s/m airline kennel from Walmart, i’ve considered just getting another for the car, as ive put her crate in the back seat before, not secured with any straps but its wedged between the front and back seat pretty tightly and it doesn't move. That still doesnt feel particularly safe to me though.
The other option i’ve considered is a backseat cover (and continue to buckle her in), specifically with a hard base, a family member of mine has one with no base and it just slips and slides everywhere. I need to buy a new buckle, the one we have is old and second hand, she can pull it out to its full length and put her front paws on the center console.
Most of the time we’re in the car is a quick 10-15 trip to the store or park. Occasionally we take roadtrips to see family (~ 6 hours with breaks.)
Just curious what other people think.
