Dog plays with insects?

My dog has a rather peculiar behavior with insects. Whenever she finds one that can't escape, she grabs it with her teeth, throws it around, and starts playing with it, rolling it, moving it around, etc. I've seen her do this with flies, butterflies, crickets, beetles, and even spiders (but I kill them quickly). Eventually, the insect ends up dying, either from losing a part during the game or from being squashed by my dog.

I've had other dogs before and never saw this behavior. Is it common? My dog is a Border Collie and is less than two years old.

Sometimes I wonder if she's just bored. I have another older dog, but she doesn't play anymore.

Thanks for reading.
