Hello, we adopted a puppy a couple months ago and had been free feeding her for a bit while she got used to my family and our house. Now i don’t know how to switch her onto a schedule.
She definitely does not overeat, i think she eats less than she is supposed to most days. She does not finish her food most of the time and stops eating when she is full. She eats a meals worth at once too- shes not the kind of dog that eats a little bit throughout the whole day.
The issue is that she eats at a different time every day. Sometimes i will put out food and she will show no interest in it when she has eaten the same time of day the past 2 days. Right now i end up leaving her food out until she eats her first meal, and then i put it away and offer her next one around 4 hours later. Sometimes she eats it and sometimes it takes another 2 hours. Should i be taking her food away if she doesn’t eat it right away? I just don’t know what to do since she doesn’t overeat and i don’t want to deny her a meal and make her wait till her next one. Ive heard of putting down food, waiting 5-30 minutes and trying again the next hour if they don’t eat anything. I would appreciate any help.
