I have a nearly 6 month old jack Russell/bedlington cross. I do training sessions every day at lunchtime and during these sessions his attention is laser focused, couldn't ask for more. Outside of this, any command is like pulling teeth to get engagement. E.g. During training if I ask him get in his bed he will run to his cage, at night after I ask him to get in his bed and he just stares blankly and we have a stand off for 5 mins.
Also certain things like if both of us are in the garden and I try to recall, absolutely nothing, no interest. If I recall from my kitchen he will sprint in the house.
We do regular engage/disengage training as he gets overexcited seeing people and dogs on walks and doesn't listen, but does anyone have any advice for getting better listening when not actively "training"?
