Hey everyone,
My pup is about 6.5 months old, and we’ve been working on crate training for a while now… but we’ve hit a weird roadblock and could really use some advice.
She will only sleep in her crate if she can clearly see both my wife and me. If we’re in bed and she can’t see us? Absolute meltdown. And I’m not talking about the “give it a few minutes, ignore the whining” type of crying. It’s full-on wailing, distress yelping, smacking the crate, flipping out. She can keep this up forever — the other night it went on for almost 2 hours. We do play with her extensively throughout the day and closer to bed time and make sure she gets tired. She also gets her last potty break right before we head to bed.
Last night we decided to experiment and slept on the floor next to the crate. And… she settled immediately and slept. But obviously this is not a long-term solution unless we want permanent back problems 😂
Has anyone dealt with this? What did you do to help your pup feel safe alone in the crate at night? How do we get back to sleeping in our actual bed while she sleeps peacefully in her space? Is there something we can do gradually to help?
Any tips, success stories, or even “been there” comments are welcome. We are tired lol.
