Keeps eating rabbit poop

TLDR; My puppy eats rabbit poop in our backyard when I try to get her to go potty. I don’t know how to 1) prevent this and 2) successfully get her to go potty.

We have a 15 week old Havanese. She came to us paper trained, and we have been trying to get her to go potty outside.

We have been pretty inconsistent with taking her outside and letting her go inside, which I know is probably confusing her. We decided that we are going to take away the paper and only try to bring her outside.

So far, we have created a small pen outside and been putting her in there to go to the bathroom. This wasn’t working 100%, but we could get her to go in there a few times a day at least.

In the past couple of days, we have started taking her on walks. As a result, she now HATES the pee pen we made and refuses to go to the bathroom in there now. She just sits and barks.

My new plan is to get rid of the pen and stand with my feet planted with her on the leash in the pee spot and see if I can get her to pee this way.

Here is where I get to my problem: my puppy likes eating poop. She eats her own poop every time if we don’t get to it fast enough. And when we’re outside in the grass, she has started eating the rabbit poop that is all over the grass. (Last time she ate rabbit poop, she kept throwing up the next day.) When we go outside now, it seems like she is scavenging in the grass just looking for the poop like it’s a treat.

What do I do? It seems like I can’t let her roam the yard because I can’t keep track of where all the poop is. She also doesn’t know the “leave it” command, maybe that would help.

If anyone has had a similar problem with their dog, what did you do?
