Lila is a small dog, 8 lbs at 4.5 months, and for the life of me I cannot get her to sleep more than 6 hours a night. Every day like an alarm she’s awake at three and since I get up at four-ish there’s no going back to bed for me 🤪I’ve had her a little over a month so our routines are finally settling in, but this is an unfortunate one!
I absolutely cannot put her to bed later. I’ve tried so many tricks and she is too exhausted after dinner. She puts herself essentially to bed at 6ish, so she is sleeping about 8 hours just with interruptions of me bringing her out to potty. I’ve tried later potty breaks but she still gets up at three. It seems like that’s just when her body wakes and because she’s awake she’ll have to go potty right away. I do ignore her for ten minutes or so trying to stretch out the timeline but of course I’m not sleeping because she’ll be whining quietly and scratching at the kennel floor.
The next thing I’m going to try is setting a light alarm for three and moving it one minute later every morning. I’m hoping to help understand IF it’s time to get up with the visual cue. Any other ideas?
