Potty pad trays: worth it or a waste?

I have a 6 year old small dog dealing with medical issues (liver function related). She is on a bunch of medications that have caused her to have increased thirst/urination and be unable to hold her pee like normal.

She often has accidents in the night and during the day when I’m not home. This is new for her and directly tied to the medications/liver issues.

I’ve got her all set up on a big sheet of linoleum with an ex-pen and her crate and now potty pads. I’m looking at getting some type of tray but unsure if they’re helpful or what type.

There’s some options with like a grate on top that say it prevents them from stepping in it which seems nice but then it adds a step of needing to wash the grate every day.

Any opinions from those who have used these before? I never used potty pads at all in her life, just went straight to potty training her to go outside so this is all new for me. I just want her to have a potty option that also prevents it from leaking into the ex-pen if it goes off the side of the pad (this has happened).

I’m unsure how long she’ll be dealing with this, we just got her started on the right medications and I’m just taking it one day at a time.
