Hi guys! After 6 weeks of having my puppy we started having a pretty consistent schedule which I am happy with. Admittedly for a while I did spend a lot of time with her but I am starting to intentionally provide her solo play times so she can learn independence, self entertainment, and that boredom is OK.
My puppy is 15 weeks old and she’s been sleeping for about 15 hours a day.
Our routine (roughly) – Puppy sleeps from 10-7 and idk how but she never wakes me up unless it’s 7 to 7:40 – Wake up and immediately I carry her outside to potty. – Then I put her in her playpen in the living room to play by herself for about 10 minutes while I get ready for the day – Then I play with her in the enclosed kitchen area like fetch and do some resource guarding training I keep this max 15 minutes.. I might just let her hang out a bit while I make tea or something – Then it’s food time which I use her kibble to train and the remainder 1/4 amount in her sniffle Mat.. her attention span is honestly pretty good for a puppy our sessions are about 15 min or sometimes it can be 30 but I try not to go over 15 – potty again – solo time in the pen – unwind (I provide her an enrichment toy) and bring her to the crate area in my bedroom for her first nap which is around 9
So we repeat the following give or take and she takes a total of 4 naps a day about 2 hours each nap, but could range from 1.5-3 hours.
I’m trying my hardest to really allow her alone time so each wake period I try to leave the room even for a few minutes. I wasn’t the best at this until recently. Anyways, does this seem like a relatively ok routine? I am open to any feedback. I was stressing because I used to feel exhausted trying to fill up my puppy’s time with things to do and I realized how bad that was for me and for her in the long run.
