Okay, those of you who have introduced a puppy to an older cat, give me all the tips!
My cat is a female dilute torti, super social and affectionate, 12 years old. She’s been around dogs her entire life but has never really loved them, more so tolerated them and ran from them when they instigated play time (typical cat and dog relationship). However, she and I have been without any dogs for a few years, after my soul dog, as well as my senior girl, both passed within a year of each other. Surprisingly I noticed a shift in my cats demeanor after this, and I realized she missed her dogs too.
So fast forward 3-4 years, and I’m getting a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy on Nov 22nd. It’ll be the first time in a long time she’s had a puppy in the house, and I feel like the last time I wasn’t the best at introducing her. So I want to get it right this time. I don’t want to stress her too much and really want to ensure she takes to the puppy and eventually realizes he’s not there to harm her.
Any tips? Anyone have any good success stories introducing their older cats to a puppy?
