Hi guys, I have read a few posts about puppies having a difficult time eating but I feel like my situation is a little different so I wanted to ask for some help.
So we just got our 3 month old Pomeranian puppy around 5 days ago. She is very tiny she’s about 1.5 lbs. The first day or two she was good but in the evening we noticed she had not finished her food and she is at risk to get low blood sugar which could be very dangerous for pups her size so we gave her some honey and took her to the vet to make sure she was okay. She’s okay, they did blood work and ran tests but they found she has coccidia which is a bummer. We’ve been giving her the meds and following all the protocol, but now the problem is she is not eating enough. We’ve tried kibble, wet food, boiled chicken and rice, and she’ll eat a little bit and then be entirely not interested and won’t eat.
Her energy levels are great, she’s playful, and the vet said she will be fine after the meds but I can’t give them to her until she eats which means it is a nightmare every time she has to eat. Every day it’s trying everything on rotation and one day she’ll eat a little of the chicken the next day she will eat the hard food but never a good amount and it’s always after spending nearly 30 min to an hour trying to get her to eat. We’ve been giving her Nutrical to help but that’s not nutritious enough, she has to eat real food.
I plan on taking her to the vet again to see if maybe it’s the medication or if she’s just a picky eater?
I’m hoping someone here might have a suggestion for what we can do to entice her to eat? I feel like we’ve tried everything and I am always scared she will get the low blood sugar episode again.
