I adopted a 6 month old husky / Swiss Sheppard mix 3 week ago. He is not neutered yet, appt scheduled soon.
I have a female husky 5.5 y/o, chillest dog ever, and they get along so well!
I’ve been watching so many training videos, teaching him every day and things are going well considering.
But they fight over food and toys. I don’t know how to fix it.
I took all toys away, and only let them play with toys supervised because one dog will take one toy and then the other wants that toy and they get vicious with each other. Same with human food. For treats, we always get the pup to eat in his crate, so that’s not an issue, but when it’s time for us to eat our food, we put him in his bed and if he comes out and the adult dog is near us, he goes absolutely crazy and we have to rip them apart.
We have started putting him in his crate while we eat now with a bone, but how do I get my puppy to not resource guard? The only info I can find online is what to do to make sure they don’t fight, but not a lot about how to get them to share.
My senior dog who passed away early this year, my husky and her would always share well together so I don’t know what to do but I don’t want to be on alert 24/7 when there’s food or toys around. And advice would be greatly appreciated.
