Puppy growled in her covered pen when I came to bring her out for midnight potty

Is this typical or did I just startle her in the dark? This is my first dog so I'm worry I might have messed her up.

I just bought home an 8 week old mini poodle and she's sweet. She's in a covered pen in the living room. My room is next door and when she started crying I figure it was time to take her out to potty. It's dark in the living room but when I crouched to unlock her door, she was in a corner and I can hear her growling.

But once I unlocked and she smelled me she came over and let me pick her up to bring her to do her business. She tried to play but I ignored her and when she did her business I gave her some affection and brought her back to the pen. She whined a bit and I stayed next to her for a bit until I don't hear anything before sneaking back to my room.

I'm worry about the growling though.
