Note: this post is both a vent and seeking advise.
Backstory: I have a 4 month old poochon/bichon poo pup. He used to enjoy eating kibbles but slowly grew tired of eating it. We swap to another brand of kibbles and the same thing happened. He ate with gusto for awhile and grew tired of it. We ended up adding in toppers like broth, yogurt, pumpkin and some other human safe food to get him to be interested in eating the kibbles. It worked for a while and then he refused to eat it again. (Which I learn and now know that what I have done is what's causing he to develop pickiness in his food and I would like to undo it.)
Vent: Sometimes he would eat kibbles, one kibbles by one kibbles, when fed by hand. But I cannot spend 1 to 2 hours every meal feeding him by hands. T.T I love him so so much but his refusal to eat kibbles is driving me crazy with worry that he may not be getting enough nutrition his body needs to grow. I am so worried!
Advise needed: I read online as well as some reddit posts here that the method to get him back onto kibble diet is to place his kibbles down for 15mins and then keep it away until the next meal time. No treats or human food at all inbetween. And repeat until he realises that he is not going to get anything else other than kibbles and he need to eat it fast before it gets taken away. This is a method I am planning to try but I just have 2 queries. Number one, is it safe for a growing puppy to go without food for 1 day or 2 days? Number two, once the kibbles and nothing "clicks" for him, and he learns to eat his kibbles, can he later still enjoy treats and human food? Or if we reintroduce those food, he will regress to being picky again?
