My girl is a rescue and just barely hit the 12 week mark. It’s a foster to adopt situation, which is completely new to me. Technically she isn’t actually mine until next week when I have a meeting with the agency so they can verify that she’s well taken care of and isn’t going to be used for any sort of breeding.
They booked her in before we got her, and there was no way out of it without having her taken away. I understand why they wanted it to happen but none of my other dogs have ever been spayed this early and I’m worried about her. She’s a complete land shark with an insane amount of energy, and I’m not sure how to keep her calm.
The first day was alright since she was still coming off the drugs and was generally pretty calm but today was insanely stressful. She desperately wants to run and play and seems incredibly annoyed that her walks have been cut down to two ten-fifteen minute ambles around the neighbourhood instead of the 30 minute forest walks she’s gotten used to.
She also has two little reddish welts on the left side of her stomach below the incision which I’m worried about. I’ve also heard that early spays can increase the risk of health issues as she grows up, especially since she’s mixed with german shepard. Maybe I’m overly anxious about it all but I just feel like she’s way too young for this and I’m afraid of complications.
Any tips on keeping her calm during the healing process or on what the little red bumps could be would be helpful. I want her to be as happy and healthy as possible. I’m calling the vet tomorrow just to be safe, but any additional insight means a lot.
