Advice tips and suggestions for a unwanted situation

Hi there, this will be a bit long winded so I apologize in advance.

I live with my wife and our 22 month old daughter. We recently unexpectedly, suddenly and distressingly lost our beloved 4 year old lab and the house feels empty and cold without him, we'd always planned and hoped for him to be around in our daughter's formative years, we knew getting a puppy would be hard and difficult so did it before the baby came!

We are now lost without him, were contemplating a rescue dog that's abit younger (1-2) but are concerned about having a young child and not knowing the full background of the dog.

Are we being mad considering getting a puppy? We've obviously been through the puppy stages before, so we sort of know what we're getting into. Each dogs different so what may have been easy with our last dog probably won't be as easy with the new one. But swings and roundabouts!

I think we just need the reality check, our daughter was good with the dog,but I understand we would need to cordon them off from each other for awhile, the puppy would also come with me to work once they've had their jabs.

It was 4 years ago when we last did the puppy phase,so would like to hear from people who are living now, rather than the rose tinted glasses.
