Hi Folks, today on my regular walk w my almost 7 month old puppy, two dogs got out of their porch and were barking and circling us. In the chaos, the leash got wrapped around my legs and I fell. My puppy was screaming. The dogs were decent breeds – a large doodle and a huge Newfoundland – but it was traumatic for both of us. They were barking loudly and running and charging her (from what I could see after my face plant, I still had her leash though as it’s a moderately busy street).
I’m very lucky a driver stopped, came out and distracted the dogs enough for me to get up. She was helping me get away for which I am grateful. I limped home, pup is now asleep and I’ll check her for possible bite marks. I’ve put bandaids on my sidewalk injuries but man I’ll be sore tomorrow. I did call 911 once I was away. I wish I got the witness name but the dogs were still running around outside when the officer got there. He will give a ticket to the owner who was supposedly not at home until after this happened. My dog goes to daycare once a week and is in level 2 with a good trainer already (with 4 other dogs, three bigger, one smaller). I will shoot her an email but thought I’d throw it out to you all to see if you have tips on how to prevent this memory from ruining $$$$ of progress we’ve made with socializing my pup. TIA
