My puppy gets quite aggressive when we try to take things out of his mouth

We have a 4 month old golden retriever puppy, who LOVES putting everything and anything in his mouth. We’ve puppy-proofed the house super well and have no issues inside, however EVERY time we go outside he finds something to chew. Even if it’s just into the yard to pee (we currently don’t trust him with the door to outside open, so we let him out frequently to go), he’ll pick up something, we try to remove it and sometimes it’s easy enough but other times he gets quite aggressive. He snarls and tries to actually bite us if we do, not just mouthing bites but proper bites. We’re after any advice on how to help with his reaction to us or whether we should just let him eat random stuff and not try take it off him? Thank you in advance.
