Hi y'all, I'm sure this has been asked a few times before but I'm at my wits end! Prior to my current dog, I had a lab/boxer mix that was a dream to train – Super food motivated and always wanted to appease me. We were off leash walking within 6 months of me getting her because that's how easy and food motivated she was.
My current dog is a GSD/Pittie/Rottie mix (the most stubborn and loving of all mixes) and the GSD smarts and stubbornness is really showing in her teenage months! She can get tricks down in less than a day, and she will "come", "leave it" or "sit" etc. at home. HOWEVER, as soon as we're outside and on a leash, everything goes out the window. Treats, toys, balls, even running away or talking to her in a super high pitch voice will NOT get her attention. She won't listen to me or my partner once she's outside. We already have a trainer, and she does great during her training sessions, she knows exactly what she needs to do which is why it's so frustrating! If anyone has any tips and tricks, or have had a puppy that was like this, please help me 😭 I'll watch all the training videos I need if I have to.
Also somewhat related, part of why I think she can't focus outside it because she has a super high prey drive. She will freeze, stare, shake, and then bolt if she sees a bunny or squirrel and it takes her a while to come down from the excitement of seeing them. It's milder at home, but we have 2 cats and it's 50/50 with getting her to "leave them" alone 🥴 so I guess you can say prey drive and peace is another thing our puppy needs help with 😭..
