Obedience training recs?

I have a 5 month old cattle dog/lab mix, and while he's actually not that hard to manage overall, he can be fairly disobedient sometimes (especially if there's no incentive of treats to get him to listen).

I have a discount on a Petco obedience training program, but before I commit to that, I wanted to hear from others. Are the standard training programs at most Petco/PetSmart locations good enough? Or should I seek out more private training??
