Hey ya'll
I feel like I may get some hate on this but here we go..
I am losing my mind with my 6 month old puppy shredding everything I put in his crate that's soft. I'm writing this after catching him chewing up his last washable puppy/crate pad. He was fine for a couple months and all through his teething but now he's torn a massive hole in his 3rd dog bed (he'd shredded his other ones when I first got him), shreds/eats all of his washable puppy pads, and just tears up anything that isn't hard.
He has toys in his crate to chew on at night and during the day when he's crated, he gets plenty of playtime for his age, I just don't know what to do. I know dogs are fine to sleep on a hard surface but I know that his breed (Shiba Inu) is prone to orthopedic issues and Id rather him have an orthopedic bed or something soft to lay on so hes not sliding in his crate.
The crate we currently have for him is thicker wire/wood and the crate tray goes underneath the bed, not inside. I forced the tray inside the crate and it fits but it wobbles due to the middle bar underneath being slightly raised as opposed to the others for structure reasons. He doesn't chew on furniture or anything hard aside from his dog toys, just soft things like blankets, pads, dog beds, and even our pillow case which also has a massive hole after not even 5 minutes of non aggressive chewing (that was my fault 100%). I don't want to keep the tray in there but I also don't want his paws to slip through the bottom of the crate and have him hurt himself.
I will say, I do not currently have the money to buy him a new bed, new pads, or anything super expensive like the "indestructible" beds i've seen online. I'm military and the government shutdown has me limited to paying only my bills and thats it for the most part. I don't have the money for a behaviorist either which sucks because I would love to have him be seen by one. when I first got him, I was financially stable. An emergency vet visit and 5 day hospital stay later and I'm in debt and it just kept getting worse. REGARDLESS, I'm in a tough financial situation so buying expensive things or at least anything more than $50 is out of the question. he has everything he needs aside from a bed or anything soft to lay on so I really don't want financial advice as this is more a personal preference to ensure his future health is good.
Any advice on how to get him to stop chewing bedding while he's in his crate? I do have a camera and that's how i've caught him chewing it up and I pull it out immediately after I see him/while he's in the process unless I'm at work (I take it out when I get home on my lunch break). He currently just has the tray and some hard chew toys in his crate.
This is the crate we currently have for him as reference since I can't post a photo: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09XDZ2J64?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_4&th=1
