We did all the desensitization, and all the practice when he was little little. Worked through his fear period. He was fine with fireworks.
Yesterday I was doing his evening sniffy walk and one went off right overhead and it was like a bomb blast. He's 10 months old and 35kg plus so I had a few seconds to steady myself as I heard it whizz up from about one street over. He was trying to bolt next second.
Cue me grappling him in a hug in the grass to stop him tearing the lead out of my hands. Had a few seconds until the next one went off just as close.
It was a very scared walk home and he took himself straight into his crate. We took him for an early sniffy walk at 5pm and k just had bad vibes and came home. Was in the door 2 minutes before they were going off right next to the house again.
He's hiding in his crate every time one goes off now even if its distant. Thankfully the time is going down with each bang. It started at three hours last night and now we are down to 5 minutes. At the moment.
Anything I should be doing other than leaving his crate open and offering him comfort until this fireworks season ends and we can start desensitization from scratch in a few weeks?
