How should I go about crate training my 3 month old shiba inu

I've had him for about 5 days. I understand there is an adjustment period. He doesn't like his leash and crates because he was just barn raised by the Amish. The first 3 nights I slept with him on the couch. The 4th night I put him in the spare bedroom in his crate for the night. Whenever he is in his crate he screams for hours. I read that he might feel less anxious if he sleeps in his crate but in my bedroom. I also read that I he might just stop screaming after being in the crate thats in the other room for a few weeks to around a month. I'm just worried about inconsistent training. I'm just trying to see what has worked for people and just stick with that.
